TV Main Boards for Samsung

Selecting the Right TV Main Board

As with most electronics, a group of complicated-looking circuits and parts must work together to make your TV power on when you push the button. When one part breaks or goes awry, your set won't work, which means that something inside your TV could use some work. One common problem for TV owners is a broken main board, and repairing it is typically an uncomplicated and less expensive fix than buying a new TV set is.

What Does a Main Board Do?

There are different types of boards that work together to make your TV set work as it should, which includes inverter boards, circuit boards, and power boards. Though an inverter board is another component altogether, the circuit board and power board are sometimes used interchangeably with the terms "main board" or "motherboard."

  • Your main board supplies power through your peripherals. Thus, when you plug in an HDMI cable to use your game console or insert the cord to hook up a DVD or Blu-ray player, you are using your main board.
  • This part draws the A/V signals in and converts them to digital signals so your TV works the way it should to display video and output audio.
  • You may notice when you open your set up that there are a few different boards, so how can you distinguish the main board from the inverter board or the timing controller board? Typically, the main board is large, heavy and full of circuits.

How Do You Select the Correct Replacement Main Board?

When you're experiencing symptoms of a broken power board, such as a TV that won't turn on or stay on or nonworking audio or video, it's probably time to find a proper replacement for your set.

  • As with many other tech components, there are always model numbers to go by. You can examine the part itself for the model number or get your owner's manual out to find the part numbers since the part number has to match for it to fit and work correctly.
  • You'll want to ensure that it works with your specific brand and type of TV, such as a Samsung LCD or plasma TV.
  • In addition, be sure to check the size. As with televisions, main boards come in varied sizes.

How Do You Replace Your TV's Board?

You might not consider yourself a tech genius, but thankfully, you don't have to be in order to repair your main board.

  • Unplug everything and power your set down completely to reduce the chances of injury. Next, lay your set face-down on a flat work surface and prepare your workspace with the necessary tools.
  • Use a compatible screwdriver to unscrew the back panel of your television. Then, gently lift away the fabric from the power board and unscrew the connectors, removing all of them.
  • You can now take the board out of the chassis, before installing the new main board in its place and repeating the above steps in reverse.
