Toyota Sienna Seat Belts and Parts

There are several different parts that make up the Toyota Sienna seat belt. If you need to replace your seat belts, you will find that there is a range of options for you to choose from.

What are the main parts of a Sienna seat belt?

There are four major elements in a basic seat belt in your vehicle, and they are listed below:

  • The extender is the woven strip that covers the rider and reaches down their body and across their waist.
  • The clip is the plastic part attached to the extender that allows the occupant to adjust the length of the extender.
  • The latch is the locking mechanism attached to the seat itself that the extender connects and clicks into for a secure linkage.
  • The pre-tensioner is the pulley that sits over the riders shoulder on the inner wall of the car that spools out the extender.

Advanced racing belts sometimes have a set of five extenders and pre-tensioners that all join in a central latch over the riders center of mass for greater safety at high speeds.

What is an OEM belt?

An OEM belt is a belt made by the company who built the first part or whole belt for your brand new Toyota Sienna. There are many companies that make belts but only one is the Original Equipment Manufacturer for each make and model of a car. If you want an exact replacement for the brand new belt, then you should look for the OEM designation. Anything else is called an aftermarket model. They will be very similar to the OEM model because safety regulations limit how different various belt models can be.

Do Toyota Sienna belts vary by position in the car?

They can. In some cases, belts are identical regardless of seat position and in others, they are different. This is most apparent when the front seats are bucket-style and the back seats are bench seating. Sometimes the front belts have to have the pre-tensioner located in a different spot due to the size and shape of the side windows. The back seat belts might need to be placed differently if there is a sliding side door on one or both sides. It also depends on the make and model of your Toyota. Modifications and alterations to the seating relative to the factory originals might necessitate the need for different types of belts to accommodate them.
