What is the ignition process?

The ignition process is what starts the engine in your bike. This process includes many different parts that fit and work together. This system triggers multiple chain reactions, passing electricity along that chain, and the components use your battery to begin the process.

How does a motorcycle ignition control module work?

The ignition control module controls the ignition coil and tells it when to fire. It regulates the spark generation of a motorcycle and needs the battery to begin the process. It uses the battery to generate a spark that will turn on the ignition system, which ultimately allows the bike to run.

How do motorcycle spark plugs and camshaft position sensors work?

The ignition control module passes a high current through the ignition coil. This current creates a spark that the engine system uses to turn on. The crankshaft position sensor determines the RPM of your bike. The control module uses this information to control the fuel injecting timing and ignition timing. The sensor also works to finalize the combustion cycle.

How does a motorcycle ignition coil and distributor work?

The ignition coil uses the battery, by amplifying the voltage, to create a spark. It is a high-voltage transformer that uses two wires. A field is produced that pushes the current into the cables. The secondary wire then transmits the electricity to the next component.The distributor dispenses electricity from the ignition coil to the cylinder through the wiring. It uses a cap and rotor in this process. This design allows an efficient flow of electricity throughout the bike engine.

How do you change a spark plug?

  • Remove the cables by gently twisting them to the left and right.
  • Clean the spark plugs with a cleaning solution and cloth. If possible, lightly blow the plug with pressurized air.
  • After cleaning, remove the spark plugs using a ratchet and socket. Turn the ratchet in a counterclockwise direction until the plugs become loose. Once loose, use your fingers to pull them out.
  • Place the new spark plugs into the opening and screw them in with your fingers. Afterwards, use your ratchet to finalize the installation with a tight, clockwise turn.
  • Finally, reattach the wires to the plugs.

How do you replace the ignition control module?

  • After disconnecting the battery from the engine, remove any cables that are attached to the module.
  • Then, unmount the screws with a screwdriver.
  • Install and screw the new part firmly in place.
  • Plug the unconnected cables into the new part and verify that they are firmly in place.
  • Check to see if the motorcycle part is working with a voltmeter.
