Military Footlockers

Military footlockers and trunks provide you with space for several personal items. They are available in a variety of styles and materials, including wood or metal. Many of these footlockers also include accessories for carrying or transport.

• Antique radio chests are similar to standard army containers. However, they are usually taller or shorter than their counterparts. Many radio chests were made completely of metal, including their hinges, latches, and other accessories.
• Storage units for military doctors are similar to basic footlockers. Sections of these trunks often contain space for various types of professionals as well. Trays on top of the lockers will usually hold smaller pieces of gear.
• Larger items similar to antique steamer trunks are also available for purchase.

Many storage spaces include different accessories, sections, or dimensions based on their specific type and their intended purpose. However, most containers share a number of basic traits.

• Standard containers usually have a low profile. This design allows them to slide into place at the foot of a bed or under it.
• All lockers, chests, and trunks have side latches or centerpieces that allow them to lock once they are closed. Some chests have locking mechanisms that require a key to open. Others include simple latches designed to keep the lid closed but not locked when in storage.
• Many chests have reinforced hinges at the corners of the lid.
• These containers may have a handle on top of the lid for carrying or transport. Larger trunks may feature two handles on either side.

Vintage military chests may have different maintenance needs depending on the type of materials used in their construction. However, you can clean most of them by following some basic guidelines.

• Apply lukewarm water to a soft cloth.
• Gently scrub the affected area using a circular motion and light pressure.
• You may wish to add a mild soap to remove ingrained stains or dirt.
