Frequently Asked Questions About "League of Legends"
"League of Legends" is a MOBA-style video game developed by Riot Games in 2009. Based on a free-to-play business model, "League of Legends" is one of the most popular competitive esports video games in the world, with millions of unique viewers tuning in for major events. It is only available to play on Microsoft Windows and macOS platforms, and can be found on eBay.
What is a MOBA game?MOBA stands for multiplayer online battle arena. This gaming genre combines together action, strategy, and RPG elements. Players assume control of a character, known as a champion. Each one has its own unique strengths and abilities. Multiple characters then band together into a single team and compete with other player- or computer-controlled teams in relatively small arenas. Once players are killed or defeated, they may revive after a short period of time. The match is over not when all the players are defeated but when certain objectives are met. Individual matches can take up to an hour to complete.
What are the main types of in-game maps? There are currently three main maps in "League of Legends." A fourth one was discontinued.
- Summoner's Rift: Two teams of five gamers attempt to destroy the other team's base. Each base is guarded by turrets and inhibitors that occupy designated lanes. The rest of the map is filled with jungle. Monsters living within the jungle can be killed for certain beneficial effects.
- Twisted Treeline: This is similar to Summoner's Rift, except it involves two teams of three players and a slightly different placement of various turrets and inhibitors.
- Howling Abyss: Two teams of five players compete in this map. Instead of a large jungle area, there is a single lane in which all players fight.
Free-to-play, also known as a freemium model, means that the game itself doesn't cost anything to play. It is downloaded from the internet for free. However, although you can play for as long as you want without any cost, "League of Legends" does contain optional goods known as microtransactions. These allow you to purchase new champions, new skins, new emotes, and other items. Unless you are purchasing a collector's edition, the game has no physical copy. What you can instead purchase from eBay are pre-existing user accounts, which have their own rankings, levels, win/loss data, items, etc. These accounts were created and built up by another user.
