Introduction to the
Air Jordan 32

Jordan 32 All Star

Designed by Tate Kuerbis and released in 2017, the Air Jordan 32 is a modern reboot of the Air Jordan 2 sneakers from the 1980s—similar to how the Air Jordan 31 drew its design cues from the original AJ 1. The Air Jordan XXXII takes a comparable approach to the luxuriousness and Italian flair that the Jordan 2 did, but repackaged with new materials and tech to deliver a high-performance and stylish basketball sneaker.

The Air Jordan 32 was the first to launch with both mid and low versions right out of the gate rather than adding the Lows the following year. Not only does the XXXII lineup include popular colorways like black and red “Bred” but it also serves to highlight Michael Jordan’s incredible career with models such as “Last Shot,” “Win like 96” and “Like Mike.”

Air Jordan XXXII History and Inspiration

The 1980’s Air Jordan 2 was an Italian-made sneaker crafted from premium leather and accented with faux iguana skin detailing. It was billed as a luxury sneaker and had a premium price to match. The AJ 2 also dropped the Nike Swoosh in favor of just the Air Jordan Wings logo prominently placed on the tongue.

Fast-forward three decades and Jordan Brand followed a similar tactic when developing the Air Jordan XXXII by emphasizing premium materials and stylish accents. Plus, with borrowed elements such as the Wings logo and molded external heel counter, along with a similar silhouette, the Jordan 2 clearly informed the design language of the Jordan 32.

Dubbed “Rosso Corsa” (Italian for Racing Red) to emphasize the shoe’s Italian roots, the first Air Jordan 32 colorway released in September was predominately red with black accents. The fan-favorite black and red (aka Bred) colorway quickly followed on October 18, which is known as MJ Day to commemorate the day the NBA banned the first Air Jordan in 1985. A first in Jordan Brand’s history, the Bred (aka Banned or MJ Day) colorway was offered in both Jordan 32 mid and Jordan 32 low styles upon its debut. Since then, Jordan Brand has released dozens of Air Jordan 32 colorways, many of them associated with important milestones throughout Michael Jordan’s career.

Air Jordan 32 Design: Construction and Colorways

Thanks to the Flyknit upper, the AJ 32s are the lightest and most flexible Jordan sneakers to date. Nike Flyknit boasts a powerful combination of flexibility and structure, which makes the Jordan XXXIIs a high-performance basketball shoe. Yet, these stylish shoes also include striking details like leather or suede molded heel counters and collars embellished with prominent ribbing.

With the exception of some special and limited edition colorways, all Jordan 32s have the following design details:

  • Nike Flyknit upper with high-tenacity yarn for stretch, support and lockdown
  • Segmented heel and forefoot Unlocked Zoom Air units
  • FlightSpeed tech that unleashes energy from the Zoom Air units for an explosive bounce
  • Herringbone traction on the outsole
  • Air Jordan Wings logo on the tongue
  • Jumpman logo on the midsole

The best way to keep Flyknit looking as fresh as possible is to clean the shoes as soon as they get dirty, to avoid any permanent stains. Cleaning the Flyknit surface with a soft cloth dipped in a mild soap and water solution should do the trick. If the shoes are heavily soiled you can also use a soft brush. However, make sure not to apply too much pressure when cleaning Flyknit to avoid snagging the yarn.
