    Finally a perfect phone

I had the original Pixel XL and waited for Pixel XL 3. When it finally came out, I was disappointed. No battery life improvement (in fact, it dropped down from Pixel XL 2 according to reviews), and there is that obnoxious notch, even a double notch sometimes. So I went ahead to get a used Pixel XL 2 instead. I'm very satisfied. The original Pixel XL was already a great phone. But Pixel XL 2 is about perfect. To me, besides the Pixel line, there is no other option anyway. Reason 1: With Gogle Fi which provides the first and only global network service, the Pixel is really the only global phone. Just travel to another country with an Android phone on Google Fi, and you will understand what I mean by this. Reason 2: I don't want an Apple. And I don't want any third-party renditions of Android either, including Samsung and Huawei, because although they make great hardware, they always manage to damage the true Android experience, both in the user interface and the speed and availability of updates. The only problems I had with the original Pixel XL was that (1) I was running out of storage on the 32 GB; (2) I was desiring a little bit better battery life so it would be able to run through a busy day reliably and comfortably. Better battery life is always desirable. The original Pixel XL had difficulties to last a whole day of heavy use. Even though it is fine 95% of time, just an occasional occurrence of out-of-battery at the end of day is painful enough. As one would be habitually recharging the phone at end of day anyway, at least a whole-day battery life is critically important. Pixel XL 2 solved both problems. In addition, it also has a few nice features that the original Pixel did not have: (1) it has eSIM and can be activated without a physical SIM if you're using Google's Fi network. You can actually insert a physical SIM of an alternative network, but I found that switching back and forth is almost impractical, although possible. Every time when you switch to the physical SIM network, returning back to eSIM would require you to reactivate with Google. Sure reactivation was quite simple, involving just a few clicks, but still it is far from being seamless, and you shouldn't mistake this as a dual-SIM phone. (2) Carriers like Verizon have stopped locking Pixel 2 phones. So you can safely buy a used Verizon Pixel 2 without worrying about being locked on Verizon. The phone will be always activatable on Google Fi, even if you don't have an Fi SIM (see above). (3) The always-on standby screen display is improved, and now not only shows a clock, date, and temperature, but also battery status. There is very little battery draw on the standby screen. To me, this is the perfect phone, and for the first time I believe I may not need a replacement for a few years. In the past, annual replacement, or even midyear replacement had to be made due to lack of satisfaction of the phone performance. Now with Pixel XL 2, if it isn't good for five years, at least I'm expecting three years, which is reasonable. I feel mobile phones as a product evolution have got to a point like what PCs became around 2010. Pixel XL 2 is the proof. Before year 2010, desktop computers were always lacking in some serious aspects, making frequent upgrades necessary. But after year 2010, a well-speced PC could provide a minimum of five years of satisfactory service, and if you're not too picky, perhaps 10 years. Product lifecycle is a big issue. Upgrading a PC or a mobile phone is an extremely costly experience, not just because of the direct costs, but more importantly the time cost. For someone who is choosy on the configurations of PC or phone, switching to a new device is extremely time-consuming. In my own experience, every time when I got a new PC, it would cumulatively cost me a minimum of 20 hours to set everything up to meet my particular requirements. This is mostly system, desktop environment and software configuration. A lot of tweaking is necessary on a new PC. Fortunately, Android has made switching to a new phone a lot easier than switching to a new PC. Most of the switch including app installation, data transfer, and system configuration are made automatic. But not everything, especially when you use many apps that require personalized settings and data configuration. So still, it would take several hours to get everything right. I'm hoping to hold onto the Pixel XL 2 for at least a few years.

    an Android iPhone

If you are an Android fan and have been troubled with slow response of Samsung, HTC, LG devices that are a year or two old (I came from a Note 4 and HTC One M8), then this is the phone you want. I love the smoothness in performance of the iPhones prefer Android for customization flexibility. Though not on par with the competition at the time of writing this review in June 2018, it is the best bang for the buck. Smooth app performance, extremely good ergonomics (despite a rather large form factor of the Pixel XL), good display (not as vivid as the Samsung note but better than everything else). Love the finger print reader on the back and wonder why on earth was it not put there to begin with for all the other phones so far .. better late than never I guess. Thought that lack of expandable storage would be an issue but Google photos offering unlimited storage when using this device eliminates the need for a micro SD card altogether. There are some challenges though .. but they are mostly with software at Android end than the phone itself. The native email app is Gmail and does not support encrypted Office 365 emails, Calendar does not synch either. But there are workarounds with other apps. So 8 out of 10 there. Get it if you are on a budget or are fed-up with other android devices plagued with performance issues after a 12-18 months in service ..

    Best Choice for Me

Love this Pixel 2 XL. I've had a MOTO-X for 3 years and was never thrilled with it. AT&T was slow with OS updates. I had a Galaxy before that and those OS updates came very slow as well. However I am not an Apple guy because it is underfeatured, overrated and over priced. What Apple does do well that I wanted is make good pictures, update their OS on a regular basis, good signal in weak areas. So with Pixel 2 XL I got a fantastic camera with amazing pictures, I get Android updates for 3 years first before everybody else, I got the size that is perfect for me, I got clear sound and using voice command I can send a text message sitting in a noisy basketball crowd. Voice to text is super fast and commands work great. Did in front of a co-worker to show off. He was impressed and said that is the way Siri was suppose to work but it just cannot perform. Who was grinning, I was grinning. So glad I picked this phone, it's expensive but it's worth every dime! I use mine on Consumer Cellular GSM AT&T signal with best number of bars.

    Pixel 2 XL

After reading reviews concerning the screen burn in issues, I was a little nervous about the pixel 2 xl. I have had it for several weeks and absolutely love the phone. A really nice feature was the migration of all my apps from the old Samsung Note was flawless. I expected my pictures, contacts but not 120 + apps, it all came over with no issues. Another feature I love is the finger print authentication to connect to the phone as well as integration with several of the apps. You do have to be careful about having wet fingers, as the scanner will not recognize it. Fast charging is just that, 30 minutes gets me through 8-10 hours of pretty hard use, you tube, apps, music, etc. Google LENs works on identifying some objects but also works as a great bar code scanner. Love the phone and highly recommend it :)

    Phenomenal Value!

I adore this Google Pixel XL. I got this one for under $200. The features are extremely impressive and the memory even more so. The camera is supposed to take great pics but I've never been much of a picture taker. The USB-C charger port is a wonderful upgrade from the old Android chargers. The battery life could be better. I keep it on battery saver mode so that it can get me through half of the day. The picture in picture features are a bit of a nuisance but you can dump it in the settings. I imagine TV junkies might really like it, though. Going from a ZTE ZMAX PRO to this phone has been a breath of fresh air without breaking the bank.

Great multi-purpose phone that does it all really well

The phone is fantastic. It runs smoothly with a lot of apps running at the same time, it takes great pictures and videos (my hand is generally shaky and the photos and videos are clear, smooth and look professional), and the battery lasts almost 2 full days even when I use it very frequently. I see this phone as being a multi-purpose device, and it does a great job for each of its purposes. I also like the feature to eliminate the blue light on the screen whenever you want (including on a timed schedule) to improve your sleep. Overall, this phone exceeded my expectations and I think it will exceed yours as well (unless you have the Pixel 3 XL).

Still a fantastic phone and an unbeatable value!

The Pixel XL is still a fantastic phone in 2019. There is no need to buy an expensive new phone. This is a premium Google flagship with great software, the screen is great, it has a headphone hack, tons of memory, runs latest Android Pie and there is a chance it will get the next Android Q. If not its still a great phone. It still has one of the best cameras of any phone as well. I'd recommend this phone esp at such a low price over many many new phones. Buy this phone + prepaid carrier of your choice and save lots of money.

Great phone works on Google Fi!

I bought this to replace Nexus modelz. This is a much better phone. Battery last at least a whole day, apps open much faster. Photos our superior. Only issue is the fingerprint does not work and appears to not work on many of these cameras. Since I never used it it was not a problem.

    good, not quite great

Big screen, good battery life, not outstanding. The biggest compliant is the ever so slightly curved screen. A trend that I really don't care for. screen protectors don't sit perfectly flat, cases now interfere with screen protectors... minor issue but potentially important. Over all we like it an will likely get more of them.
