Cubase

Cubase

Cubase, distributed by Steinberg, is a leader in digital audio workstation software. It's designed to provide a comprehensive collection of intelligent music production tools that allow the user to record, arrange, mix, edit, and share MIDIs from anywhere. Whether you use a Windows or Mac computer operating system, the Cubase application can help you turn your personal computer and audio interfaces into a production studio.

What versions of Cubase are available?

Cubase has gone through a lot of transformations since 1989 when it first launched as Cubeat. Cubase Pro, Cubase Artist, and Cubase Elements 9.0 are some of the releases of this digital audio software. Cubase Elements is the most basic of the three packages for bands, songwriters, and musicians. The application supports a 32-bit/192kHz Steinberg audio engine and allows for the recording of audio and MIDI tracks with up to 24 instrumental tracks and 16 VST instrument slots. Pro 9.0 allows for unlimited instrument tracks and a more complete set of tools, such as wave meters and VCA faders. The Artist and Pro versions also allow for full instrument expression control on single-note levels and the ability to easily create, rename, and manage track versions. Pro and Artist products also allow for VST transit, which makes cloud collaboration a streamlined process. All three software editions have preset capabilities.

What is Cubase LE?

Cubase LE is the starter version of the program that is part of a bundle with some audio hardware. It is meant to give you a taste of what the company has to offer before you commit to upgrade to Elements, Artist, or Pro. Cubase LE is available for both Mac and Windows, and it includes a full set of audio effect plug-ins and basic VST instruments, such as drums, pianos, and guitars.

Are addition VST plug-ins available?

Many third-party plug-ins are available to add to the standard VST instruments included with Cubase LE, Cubase 5, Cubase 9, and others. While Steinberg provides a comprehensive sound recording processor, you can also sound effects with the ability to install VST plug-ins that make your audio tracks truly unique.

What are the Windows hardware requirements needed?

This software has gone through many revisions over the years. The requirements to turn your Windows computer into a studio workstation are dependent on the edition you are using. For example, if you are using Cubase 6, you need 2GB Ram, an intel Core dual processor, and at least 15GB of HD space.
