CPU Fans with Heatsink for Socket 462/A

Cool Your CPU with a Socket 462/A Fan and Heatsink

Some components of the CPU generate so much heat that they can destroy themselves. One of the most efficient and widely used computer coolers is a cooling fan with a heatsink. The combined devices bring the heat from the components to outside the computer case.

What is the socket type?

Part of the choosing process for the right fan and heatsink is choosing components that are compatible with your computer. Different types are available, but the 462/A works with a specific series.

How do you choose a correct fan with a heatsink?

The steps you need to take are:

  • Find the compatible CPU socket.
  • Measure the height between the top of the CPU and the computer's chassis panel. The fan and heatsink must not be too tall for your case.
  • Know how fast you want the fan to be. Faster running fans will increase the cooling process and speed it up. Some fans can have their speeds modulated according to the temperature of the computer.
What is the bearing of the fan?

The bearing is the different type of case that holds the spinning element inside the fan case, including:

  • Sleeve bearings: The surfaces of these are lubricated with a liquid that decreases friction upon contact. The porous 'sleeves' lubricate themselves and require some maintenance from time to time. These types are suitable for non-vertical orientation of the fan.
  • Ball bearings: This type has fewer limitations as it is relatively quiet and durable at high temperatures.
  • Fluid bearings: Fluid bearings have almost silent operation because of the liquid medium in which the fan operates.
  • Magnetic bearings: This type uses the repelling forces of magnets to move the fans, rather than a lubricant.
  • Rifle bearings: Rifle bearings have a spiral groove that pumps fluid from a reservoir into the fan pace so the device lubricates itself.
How do you clean CPU fans and heatsinks?

Before opening the case and cleaning the heatsinks and CPU fans, turn off all power sources and unplug all cables. Put the case on an anti-static surface before opening it up. Open the case panel. Before touching anything, ground yourself with an anti-static wristband that is attached to a metal part of the computer corpus. Clean all dust and dirt accumulated between the fins of the heatsinks and CPU fan with a compressed air bottle. Spray from all angles to clean dust out thoroughly.
