Apple created a whole new genre of "smart" cellular phones in the early 2000s and has been very successful in the smart phone segment ever since with its line of iPhones. When it was first introduced in 2009, the 3GS version had some of the industry's fastest processors, highest resolution cameras, and newest features. Though it has been nearly a decade since its introduction, the iPhone 3G 16GB smartphones still offer specifications that you may be looking for in a smartphone.

In a format that Apple has continued to use, the 3GS is available with three different storage size options; 32GB, 16GB, and the standard 8GB flash memory. While any of these options would seem to be an ample amount, it is important to consider that the operating system and other bundled software will consume roughly 2GB of storage availability. This is especially important with iPhones, as they are not designed with expansion memory slots.

The 3G and 3GS iPhones feature a 3.5 inch screen. The 18-bit LCD display is 320 pixels x 480 pixels. The overall case of the 3G and 3GS is 4.5 inches x 2.4 inches x 0.48 inches. The size of the phone and rounded sides were designed to be easier to hold in the hand and to offer a more tactile feel.

The "S" in 3GS was meant to stand for 'speed'. The 3GS featured faster processors and a 256 MD DRAM, upgraded from the previous iPhone version. The 3GS was also designed with an enhanced 3MP camera. While current iPhone models are available in four or more colors and finishes, the earlier iPhone 3GS was offered in just white or black.
