What does the Acurite weather meter do?The weather meter uses thermometer, barometer, hygrometer, anemometer, wind-vane, and rain-gauge sensors to determine current and future weather activity. The information collected from the AcuRite meter is sent via a wireless connection to an indoor display or your computer so that you can view the data and make decisions about your days activities.
How do the different sensors on the Acurite meter work?The sensors on this 5-in-1 weather station work together to give you an accurate understanding of what is going on outside. Each one plays a distinct role in gathering data.
- Thermometer: The thermometer reads the ambient temperature of the outside air. The temperature will vary according to the placement of the meter. A thermometer placed in the sun will typically show a higher reading than one sitting in the shade, for example.
- Barometer: A barometer measures the amount of atmospheric pressure present. Low-pressure readings indicate that cloudiness or rainy conditions might occur, while high-pressure readings typically mean there will be sunshine and dry conditions.
- Hygrometer: A hygrometer is used to measure how much humidity, or water vapor, is in the air. The humidity level is important to know when planning your days activities because it can affect your comfort level significantly.
- Anemometer: This device measures wind speed. High wind speed can indicate a rapid change in conditions that could make certain activities, such as boating and roofing, dangerous. Low wind speeds typically indicate that it is a relatively calm-wind day.
- Wind vane: The wind vane will indicate the direction the wind is blowing. A wind coming from the north typically indicates a cooling trend, while a wind from the south usually means a warming trend will be occurring during the day.
- Rain gauge: This device will tell you how much rain has fallen over a specific period. The measurement will help you determine how much time might be needed for the ground to dry before you do things like landscaping or construction work.
