These cards can usually be installed into most phones. However, the smartphone will need to be unlocked before another SIM can be used. Some smartphones come with a SIM-removing device, which will typically have a small pointy end. This small pointy end should be pushed into a slot on the side of your phone. Once you push it in, the SIM holder should pop out. Place the SIM in the holder, and press the card holder back into the device. If you don't have the proper tool, a flattened staple or a thin paperclip can sometimes be used to extract the card holder.

Once the card is installed on your unlocked iPhone or another smartphone, you will typically need to activate the card. To do so, follow the instructions that came with the card. This will typically involve calling the carrier number from another phone. As you activate the card, you will need to either select a plan from your carrier or deposit funds into a paid account. At that point, a phone number will be assigned to your device. Once you have activated the SIM card, you should be able to turn on your cell phone and send and receive calls. You may need to modify some settings within your smartphone in order to reach the proper network. Be sure to read and follow the instructions that come with the card.
