Main features of 1996 Impala SS cars

While all the three models produced between 1994 and 1996 are known to offer somewhat similar features, the affordable 1996 SS Impala for sale was the last model produced in the lineup. Buying the 1996 model also ensures that you get all the main features that are usually attributed to this classic car.

The 1996 Impala SS was equipped with 5.7 L 350 cu in LT1 V8 and four-speed 4L60-E automatic transmission. It was built on the B-body platform of GM that was used for full-body rear-wheel-drive models of GM cars. In fact, Chevy Impala SS 96 is the last full-size car to use the B-body platform since the platform was first launched in 1926. The highlight of the vehicle was the Caprice 9C1 police package that was standard in all models. The package also included reinforced shocks, altered springs, four-wheel disc brakes, dual exhaust, a higher-output electrical system, and other features.

A variety of exterior colors were used including dark cherry metallic and dark gray-green tones. Other exterior changes in 1996 models compared to the original SS impala are modifications to the rear quarter panel and side mirror. The 1996 Impala SS also underwent minor interior alterations. Changes in speedometer, placement of shifter, and an advance OBD-II computer control system are evident compared to the earlier models of Impala.

How can you visually distinguish the 1996 Impala SS for sale from previous models?

The 1994 to 1996 Impala SS for sale was produced in three variations. Each of the three models corresponds to the respective years of production in 1994, 1995, and 1996. There are no major differences in 1995 and 1996 models with the exception of minor changes inside the cabin; therefore, you may only be able to visually differentiate between the 1994 and 1996 model.

The major difference between these models is a quadrilateral-shaped window with an insert for the Impala emblem in the lower-rear corner of the C-Pillar glass in the 1994 model. In contrast, the C-pillar glass in 1996 model is only a quadrilateral-shaped window.

Similarly, 1994 models were equipped with a 1980s pedestal-style mirror compared to the collapsible mirrors in the 1996 model. The 1994 model also used a column shift instead of the floor shift used in 1995 and '96 Impala SS. The difference is also evident by changes in speedometer designs as the original Impala used a digital speedometer instead of the analog speedometer in 1996 model.
