Heads up vs. the Sony DSC90
Firstly, unless you really have poor eye-sight....forget about the DSC90 if you really dont need the 2.5" LCD screen vs. the 2.0" LCD screen this model has. Yes, the DSC 90 has 2 rechargable 2500 MA batteries as well, but you will benefit MORE in having 4 batteries anyways (2 in camera, 2 spare)... so use the money you are saving to buy the 4 pack of panasonic 2hr world wide 2300 MA rechargable battery pack with the money you will save vs. buying the DSC90.....
VS the Canon a520
Also, you may be considering the Canon A520, The Canon is a great Camera, you wont go wrong buying it...it does have 4x Optical Zoom vs. the Sony 3x..the pictures taken with both cameras will look great..Canon Lens vs. Zeiss Lens, DIGIC II processor vs. Sony's Real Time Image Processor are both excellent.... here is why I believe the Sony is a great sleep purchase....go to your local Best Buy or Similar place and see for yourself...SPEED-check out the time it takes for the camera to come on and take a picture, and in between photos...the sony comes out ahead..also it has a great Burst Mode option.......LCD SCREEN-not only does the Sony have a larger LCD screen which will help you in framing/composing your photos, also with reviewing your shots..it also does not have a plastic reflective coating...look at them both side by side when they are turned off..you will see a huge glare on the Canon, Nothing on the Sony-this will help in bright backlight sunny conditions......QUICK BUTTONS-Sony has the self-timer, flash-off/on, macro and quick review, display buttons all right there handy with a one touch button..the Canon has some of these handy options available convienently....ZOOM-edge goes to Canon-4x vs 3x and positioning of location on how to use it is ergonomically better on the canon......GRIP-even-both not to small to hold and use, both have extruding right hand bound body for holding nicely for most of the population......MOVIE MODE-Not that you may be looking for performance on this feature, but its fun -Sony can do 640x480 30fps, 7 mins on a 512 memory card...not bad...(double check this -but I think Canon will only do a short duration clip of 30 seconds or under)........MANUAL MODES-each have various landscape, portrait, lighting dial setting both equally handy to get at....
I own myself a Canon G2, A Kodak 4330 but I do work in the field of photography and based on customer feedback and from testing this camera, I believe it is a great purchase. Remember, like every camera, budget yourself for a good 256, 512 or even a 1 Gig Memory Card, a case and rechargeable batteries to really enjoy your camera to its fullest..hope that helps -simpleguy
