    About

I am an audiophile interested in all things audio. I am particularly interested in rare and vintage 1st pressing jazz records from the fifties and sixties. But I also venture into blues, rock, folk and R&B.

    Integra DPS-8.3 DVD Player
Nice player, does a nice job with both video and audio, particularly the SACD and DVD-Audio. . . .lots of input on the rear of the player. There have been some reported problems with the upgraded remote control that came with the unit however, which I consider a non-issues as the remote I received with this unit worked perfectly.

    Osmosis - Kenny Dorham CD
I recently became a new convert of Kenny Dorham - a very underrated Jazz Trumpeter that labored in the shadow of Miles, Dizzy and others. Osmosis, recorded under the "Black Lion" label on October 1961 is a very rare gem indeed. The players on the compilation include Curtis Fuller, Tommy Flanagan, Frank Haynes, Ben Tucker and Dave Bailey, and of course Kenny Dorham fronting the group. Kenny is very lyrical in his approach to jazz. If I had to label his playing I would say "soulful." But not soulful like Lee Morgan. He reminds me of Dexter Gordon. He is not fiery like Clifford Brown or Dizzy. And not moody like Miles, just laid back and easy to listen to. . .lyrical. I searched high and low for this recording among others by Kenny. Osmosis was a particular challenge because collectors were always asking plus $100 for it. I got the CD for a steal on Ebay. I am looking for it on vinyl.
