TRUE GRIT NEW BLU-RAY/DVD Brand New Sealed Fee Shipping

A fantastic remake.
Normally, I am not much for remaking classic films that probably don’t need to be redone in the first place. This is an exception. This movie is very faithful to the original in terms of plot and dialogue. The young actress who plays the character of Mattie Ross couldn’t be any better in this role. Her casting was a perfect choice, as was Jeff Bridges in the role of Rooster Cogburn. A very wry but nuanced performance from him. I’m not so sure about the casting of Matt Damon as LaBeoff, the bounty hunter. He’s a very capable actor, but I’m not sure this was the perfect vehicle for him. All of the other actors in the supporting roles are great, specifically the actor who portrays the gentleman who engages with Mattie about buying back her horses. That scene is hilarious, watching as that man slowly discovers that his negotiation skills are no match for this 14 year old girl. Very well played scene. Actually, even if you’ve never seen the original True Grit, and had no reference points from which to draw, there’s still not much to find wrong about this movie. It moves along at a brisk pace, has the right balance of drama, humor and pathos, and leaves you feeling like “Hey, that was really good”. And, if you buy one from EBay, and can get a new copy for cheap, you can’t go wrong with this one.

A must-have for Rock and Roll lovers!
This dvd should be in the library of any lover of Rock music as Chuck Berry is one of the founding fathers of the genre. It can rightfully be said that Chuck is an egotistical, arrogant, pig-headed son of a bitch. But, it is also true that the man's talents as an originator, a songwriter, singer, and an articulate representative of the early days of Rock, make him a national treasure. That having been said, this is an indespensible showcase of the man and his guitar, on display, in both semi-private and public venues. Having gathered together with such luminaries as Keith Richards (who, for the most part, acted as Musical Director for this project),Eric Clapton, Etta James,Julian Lennon,Johnny Johnston,Chuck Leavell,Linda Ronstadt, and Steve Jordan, Chuck and his band are shown rehearsing for an upcoming concert that would be the setpiece for this dvd. In a club that Chuck had purchased years ago, and had renovated, he and the band are shown going through the songs to be played later that week before a few thousand rabid fans.Chuck, being the legendary control freak that he is,creates no shortage of fireworks behind the scenes. At one point, during the song "Carol", he and Keith almost go to blows over Chuck's insistence that the opening guitar riff be played a certain way, resulting in Keith approaching near melt-down stage. The great Etta James is not spared any mistreatment at Chuck's hand either, being brought in by Keith to perform another Berry hit, but,due to airline delays, was unable to get the time necessary for her to become familiar with the song prior to her first rehearsal with Chuck. His initial reaction to this (as yet unknown to Chuck)"new" singer's level of preparedness? He thought Keith was out of his mind to bring her in to play. His reaction, once she had a couple of cracks at the song and got more comfortable....he got down on his knees and gave her the classic"I'm not worthy" stance, letting her know how wrong he'd actually been about her talents and worth to the project. Also included in this film are several short clips with Director(and husband of Helen Mirren)Taylor Hackford and his production assistants, describing, in agonizing detail, their adventures with the star of this film, attempting to get him to honor his committments within the established timeframes agreed upon. Chuck, being the money addict he is, tried to beg off sevearal times when he was expected at various film shoots, and, when he finally did show up,demanded to be paid more for his time. This from a man who is notorious in the annals of rock music for being an extreme cheapskate. He is also a charming and articulate spokesman for ,and about, the history of the genre,as is well represented in several scenes. The actual concert itself is a ripper, with all of the artists playing at their best. It's great to see Chuck interacting with Ronstadt during"Living in the USA" and Jennon during"Johnny B. Goode" (who REALLY sounds like his father). An amusing side note...a day or two prior to filming this concert, Chuck did another show in a different town (unbeknownst to the film's director or the rest of the band)and shredded his vocal cords so badly that he had to go in and re-record all of his vocals for this concert in post-production. It is an amazing feat of over-dubbing, and the casual observer will never be able to tell that his live vocals were not live at all.You may not like Chuck's politics, but you can't ignore his talent.
ROLLING STONES - HAVANA MOON - 2 CD + BLU-RAY SET

One of their best!
I'll keep this short and sweet. The Stones are in prime form on this disc. If YOU can move like Jagger when you're his age, my hat's off to you. The man is amazing , and it's great to hear one of the world's best harp players working out in front of what is clearly an ecstatic crowd. Even though the entire band is on fire for this show, special mention goes to Keith and Ronnie, whose sinewy guitar lines and rhythm playing have never melded better onstage. Keith has exchanged some of his tried and true (and, admittedly, overused) lead runs for more fluid solos that harken back to his best playing from the 70s. Charlie is,well,Charlie. Rock solid. Kudos, also,to newcomer Sasha Allen, stepping up to bat to replace longtime backup vocalist Lisa Fischer. While there are no surprises in the set list choices, every song is delivered with verve and style, and the lucky Cuban citizens who were in attendance were treated to one hell of a night!
