Great buy, for the price ...
I bought the Canon PowerShot A1100 IS for our trip to France in May. 12 Megapixels for under $150 is incredible (I paid $950 for my first digital camera which had 2 Mp as I remember). Anyway, I got what I paid for: a compact, lightweight point-and-shoot. What I didn't get was the optics that I assumed would be there; the telephoto shots were of suboptimal quality, not what I would have gotten if I'd paid more. That said, this camera is a bargain and it performed well for most purposes. If you want to take telephoto shots I'd recommend spending more. As an aside, if Steichen could take magnificent pictures of horse races with a box Brownie, one should never blame bad photographs on his camera. ;-)
