Jaguar X-Type Fans and Kits

The cooling fan is an important part of the Jaguar X-Type’s interior cooling system. Combined with other cooling system parts, it helps keep the motor running at the optimal operating temperature. You can find a variety of replacement Jaguar X-Type fans and kits.

How does the Jaguar X-Type’s cooling fan work?

The cooling fan assembly is located behind the radiator and consists of two fans mounted in a single shroud. The cooling fan cools the antifreeze circulating through the radiator by blowing air through its grate. The fans run at varying speeds depending on the temperature of the coolant in the radiator to maintain the engine’s operating temperature. The cooling fans on the X-Type are driven by electric motors and controlled by the car’s cooling system.

What causes vehicle cooling fans to fail?
  • Damaged fan blades: When the fan blades are physically damaged, they often jam or aren’t able to move as much air as needed.
  • Thermostat switch: Cooling fans are controlled by a thermostat sensor that turns them on when the radiator or engine temperature reaches a preset limit. When it drops below that temperature, the fan turns off. If this switch malfunctions, the cooling fan won’t run when it should.
  • Loss of power: Damaged wiring, loose connections, or a blown fuse can cause the cooling fan to lose its power source and not run.
What happens when the cooling fan stops working right?
  • Overheating: The motor of the X-Type model will begin overheating or running at excessive temperatures.
  • Check engine light: A faulty cooling fan can also cause the check engine light to turn on.
  • Weak air conditioning: The fan also creates air flow for the A/C’s condenser unit, so a failing cooling fan can impact the X-Type’s air conditioning.
How can you test fan motors for the Jaguar X?

It can be difficult to tell if the Jaguars motors have gone bad, or if the problem is an electrical fault preventing them from operating. The most direct way to see if they are bad is to test them with a power source outside of the car. Remove the cooling fans from the X-Type so you can test them on a workbench. Follow these steps:

  • Find a 12-volt power supply and a pair of test wires with alligator clips.
  • Connect the test wires to the positive and negative posts of the battery.
  • Locate the positive terminal prong in the cooling fan’s wiring connector. Attach the other end of the positive test wire from the battery to it.
  • Connect the negative test wire to the negative terminal on the fan’s connector.
  • If the motor begins running, then it’s still good. If it doesn’t, make sure the test wires are connected right. If they are, then the fan motor is defective.
  • Test the second fan motor in the same way.
