It started as a simple yet popular concept back in 1988, with 20 of the top WWE superstars competing in a special variation of a battle royal. Wrestlers draw numbers at random to determine when they enter the ring, and get eliminated by being tossed over the top rope. Starting in 1989, the number of participants increased to 30. Beginning in 1993, the Royal Rumble winner would also recieve a title shot during the main event at Wrestlemania. The mammoth Yokozuna won in 1993; Lex Luger and Bret Hart were declared co-winners in 1994; Shawn Michaels won the event back-to-back in 1995 and 1996; "Stone Cold" Steve Austin would win in 1997. There were also other great bouts as part of the festivities, among them were Undertaker vs. I.R.S.; the Beverly Brothers vs. the Steiner Brothers; Bam Bam Bigelow and Tatanka vs. Bob 'SparkPlug' Holly and the 1-2-3 Kid; the Bodydonnas vs. the Smoking Gunns and others. This is also notable for the wrestler "Razor Ramon" (Scott Hall) appearing in individual championship matches from 1993 to 1996, without actually having participated in the Royal Rumble itself. The "Razor Ramon" character would appear briefly in the 1997 Rumble, this time portrayed by Rick Bognar. After this 5-year stint, the direction that the WWE would take would be in a whole new direction. But, for the 1993-1997 period, this set represents some of the most memorable in-ring action that ever happened. Volume 2 of this anthology is a must-have for any WWE fan, and is perhaps the best of the entire series.Read full review

This is the best volume to get out of the whole anthology because it covers the years of 1993-1997 which at that time the WWF was at its pinnacle almost every wrestler in the buisness was a superstar, you couldnt find a bad match if you tried. especially the royal rumble, whats better than seeing all of the great superstars in the ring at the same time battling it out for the number one contenders spot to try to gain the WWF championship belt.
Glory days of wrestling!! Love the old WWF with Bret Hart, his brother Owen, and other greats..Worth the buy..Thanks
