I have always liked this TRUE STORY. It's about a very tough, no nonsense, X-marine wrestler, Buford Pusser who wanted to see the small, rural, clean and honest town he once loved return to it's normal ways once he and his young family returned from being gone a few years. Illegal liquor stills, casinos and camper style brothels popped up and were stealing patrons money by cheating at the tables and ripping off the drunken johns the hookers were selling to. If someone caught the businesses cheating them and complained they were severely harmed or even killed. This happened to Buford after a friend dragged him into a casino where he caught the casino ripping off his friend who borrowed Bufords money to gamble with. After a large group of thugs, (thats what it took to get the job done), nearly killed him and left him for dead, did he recover, run against a crooked sheriff and justice system only to prevail. Unfortunate tragedies happen along the way with the loss of his wife and more violence but he finally prevails and with the help of the town they eliminate all the problem businesses. A great but violent movie. It is a true story and there is a museum and books written about this guy. The newer movie with the Rock really does not do it justice. One more thing, even though the movie is older, the color and picture quality on the DVD is really great!Read full review
This man was a stick of dynamite! He didn't take no guff from anyone who did wrong. Joe Don Baker, who portrayed the real Sheriff Buford Pusser is my favorite actor for portraying Buford! Lots of action and taking care of business (TCB) as Elvis used to say. ha ha ha I recommend this movie more than the sequels with Bo Svenson "Walking Tall:The Final Chapter. It was okay, action, etc. But Svenson wasn't as convincing to the real life Pusser as Joe Don Baker was. Just a gut feeling I have. The newest one with Dwayne Johnson (The Rock)...I love him to death, but the story line was wrong. It didn't focus on the true real life events that happened to Sheriff Busford Pusser. There's a museum in Pigeon Forge, TN in Buford Pussers honor, that his daughter maintains. Next time I'm there, I am going to check it out.Read full review
Very powerful and good movie. There is one scene in the movie when the sheriff got kill, the car crash could have been better but overall, the movie is good. This orginal "Walking Tall" is better than the latter "Walking Tall." I brought this movie because I remember Sheriff Pusser during the time I live in Tennessee. Actually, I remember going to the movies to watch this same movie. I love watching it now as when I watch it then. Highly recommend this movie.
This was the very first movie that I ever saw. The intensity and of the movie makes you sympathetic regarding individuals who are so often victimized by the system as well as criminals. Being that this is a true story makes it more intense as you feel the pain and emotions that was endured. I loved this movie. It will always be one of my favorites!! A well written movie.
This is a 70's classic movie - much better than the updated one. Yes, it is dated - but all classics have to a certain degree that aspect of themn. Many of the supporting characters you will recognize from countless films - nobody on the "A" list, but all fine actors. The DVD was very good quality - I mention this because I have bought DVDs for old movies that were bad quality or were "modified" and this ruined the experience. Make sure you get a good quality copy of this movie to enjoy.
