Disclaimer: I haven’t played a sshhmute or Okura+mute, which I hear are phenomenal. That said, I’ve tried ProTec/Liberty, Yamaha Silent Brass, Pampet, etc. — most every other practice mute I’ve heard of. In my experience, this is the most free-blowing (by far) and consistently in tune across the range of the instrument. It isn’t particularly quiet; in fact, I’d probably liken it to the volume range of a Harmon mute, but it‘s enough dampening to play with forte air in an apartment space during daytime hours.

This Bach mute enables the sound and resonance of the harmonics to carry-through without any real sound; it is sufficient for the musician to practice to whilst listening. I like it a lot. I have other practice mutes which are much more silent, and they too have their place but, seemingly cause a bit of backpressure; this one does less so, although, this is not as silent as the others. I recommend it; it is designed by V Bach, no less.

This is a fairly quiet mute. Unlike most practice mutes it is small and has a bright sound, so I don't have to wonder about tone while using it. It has a "Harmon-like" sound and blow to it. On my horns it does blow a bit sharp, so I need to adjust the slide accordingly. 4.5" tall. Small enough to fit in a corner of a case for warming up at a gig.
