This is a teeny little cookbook, and its size makes it quite quaint and easy to store/read in a busy kitchen. Despite it being smaller, though, it still contains tons of information and recipes, you're certainly not losing any money here. The book contains recipes for everyone, including some allergy options, healthier options, and some less healthy options. This is a compendium of the very best vegan cupcake and frosting recipes I've seen around. I love it!

I am a vegetarian and I became an unwilling vegan when my breastfeeding infant son was diagnosed with allergies to dairy, eggs, soy and peanuts. I bought Vegan Cupcakes because I was looking to make some vegan treats for myself that my family could enjoy also. And enjoy them we have. I've tried several of the recipes--Basic Vanilla, Basic Vanilla with the lemon variation, the Pineapple cupcakes and the Agave Nectar. They were all good, although I prefer some more than others. Each time I make them my technique gets a little better and the cupcakes get better. I also love Isa's informal, chatty, homegirl writing style. She speaks everday language that is easy to understand and she keeps it real on all levels. Her explanations of commonly used ingredients and tools is extremely helpful, as is her section on troubleshooting when things go wrong. As a note, I have substituted rice milk for soy in the recipes and they have come out well. I have also made the basic icing while leaving out the margarine because it has soy in it. I just substituted non-hydogenated shortening for the margarine and it came out just fine. There are no negatives to this book that I can think of. I love this book and I know I will be using it for years to come.Read full review

Vegan Cupcakes are amazing. Seriously, they are. I love this book because it is chock full of mazing recipes with accompanying pictures and, AND they have two recipes for Gluten Freedom Vanilla and Chocolate Cupcakes. Amazing. I am smitten. The recipes are SIMPLE and so easy to make. I got my book on Monday and thus far I have made two batches of cupcakes for myself and my family. Last night, I modified the Vanilla Gluten Freedom recipe and made Gluten Free Vegan Strawberry Shortcake. Seriously. The product is insanely moist, addictive, animal-free cupcakes. WHO KNEW A CUPCAKE DIDN'T NEED EGGS!! It is mind boggling! I gave them to family members and they didn't know the difference. I would honestly say they taste better than traditional cupcakes and you can pronounce ALL of the ingredients! :-) The possibilities are endless with this book. I recommend it for anyone with food allergies or Celiac disease. Also, it is perfect for any vegetarian or vegan or person who is cognizant of the grossness of some animal products. Vegan Cupcakes with take over the world. One oven at a time.Read full review
I am lactose-intolerant, and hate taking pills before I eat anything I really love with dairy, so when I saw this book I knew I had to try some of the recipes and I just loved the idea of using tofu and no eggs to make decadent and different cupcakes. I've made the Green Tea Cupcakes and the Mexican Hot Chocolate Cupcakes so far and they were yummy! You don't miss the dairy and eggs, but I do substitute butter for margarine only because it makes a richer cupcake and using margarine is not something I like to do, but again, personal preference. I am not a vegan but enjoy trying new recipes that use different ingredients than I would normally use....like my milk and eggs. This is a nice change of pace!
