This 2-Disc set has a surprisingly, delightful-added-extra bonus. The behind scenes with interviews of G. Peck, and other actors and actresses in the movie...make it top quality next to the movie itself. There's no surprise why TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD won Best Picture, Best Actor (G.Peck)and other awards. The one I would have picked for best young actress would have been Mary Bedham who played the part of A. Finch's (G.Peck) daughter, Scout, in the movie. Her expression and action is so real and brilliantly portrayed. I don't know if Kim Stanley got an award for her narration of the movie....she should have!! Her voice, from start of the movie, makes a person move right in to the little "tired old town" of southern America in the 1930's. The first time I saw TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, I actually thought this person (narrator) was telling about the time when she was young and the movie was about her life as a child...that it was really a true story.Read full review
Gregory Peck plays the attorney role very well in this movie. He also plays a single father & portrays one excellently in this movie. As a class project suggestion, I purchased this movie to do a college paper on it & I received a good grade. I know that there are various other movies that were made to resemble this one, but in my opinion, this movie with always be acknowledged as the one & only best "To Kill a Mockingbird" movie!
Read the book then watched the movie. The movie was very close to the book, just some minor changes but nothing that effected the story line. This could have easily been a true story. This is an excellent movie but I do recommend reading the book first. Gregory Peck at his finest. Be sure and watch the "extras" that are included in the DVD set.

To Kill a Mockingbird was the book that grabbed me when I was 12, even more than Diary of Anne Frank, and has been my favorite one ever since. The movie is also in my top 3 favorites because it is so true to the book. But, having the second disk of special interviews, etc., is the very thick layer of frosting on the whole kaboodle! I can't recommend this Anniversary set enough. That this movie was chosen to represent the 100th Anniversary of MGM (or whichever studio it was) should tell you how excellent it is. Gregory Peck and all the other actors are phenomenal. The special edition interview disk adds so much to the movie - even for a very old fan like me.
I don't believe there's ever been a more compelling story told on the screen than this one. Before we had "political correctness" endlessly jammed down our throats, this film perfectly demonstrates and defines the morality behind that insipid, over-used phrase. It speaks in the language of its time, as did Mark Twain when he wrote 'Huckleberry Finn', a classic, brilliant book removed from libraries for the use of a single word. How short-sighted and narrow-minded to pretend the past never existed. 'To Kill a Mockingbird', made in 1962, tells the story of a father educating his children honestly in the way life works during the depression years of the 1930's in the deep south, . He doesn't soft-soap his messages, but tells them gently, yet forthrightly in ways they'll understand. The entire cast was perfect. The directors' touch so seamless it appeared as if there wasn't one, and making it in black and white was genius. If you never buy another movie, your video library will be short a classic.Read full review
