The "Starch" theory, by Dr McDougall, is a culmination of many years of study of the foods people from around the world eat and their impact on health. His starch way of eating feels "clean" except for the use of tofu in his recipes (hormones and GMO in soy products) and about the use of non-organics. I received reasonable responses from Dr McDougall's staff, although I'm not completely convinced. The reason for non-organics was because not everyone can afford organics; in the case of soy they stated that it's used only as a condiment in recipes. It seems that there's a lot of tofu used in the recipes. The book contains an abundance of recipes, some great, that include alternative products to animal sources. I disagree with the unhealthy content of some of the alternative ingredients listed in some recipes. The theory is somewhat convincing based on Dr McDougall's background: a stroke at age 19 and his miraculous reversal of debilitating health challenges caused by what he believes was the impact of eating animal products while growing up. A lot of the information contradicts itself. If you are not already plant based it would be useful. Not very useful if you are and have been plant based. No options for food allergies or gluten free. Doesn't really talk about 50/50 eating or any options. Glad I bought it used.

Don't fear the whole food starches. I don't care who told you that high fat and/or high protein and/or low carb was the healthiest way to eat, but they're liars and charlatans. Get this book and discover the healthiest, youngest, free-est you that you never knew existed. Eating the high carb no oil way is the cheapest, most nutritious way of eating on the planet. If the world went plant based and started growing plant foods for human consumption, we could end not just hunger but also malnutrition, and eliminate most diseases, and even obesity.
