This book is THE best book I have read on the subject of Lupus covering both Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE). I have had Lupus for many years and coming to terms with it, or any chronic illness, means understanding the disease. Lupus is very complex with many manifestations. This book breaks it down into terms that are more understandable by the non-medical person. It is, however, still somewhat technical. It also explains the normal course of treatments, medications, expectations and some of the emerging developments. The book is udated every few years to keep up with the new developments in the field. The book is written by Dr. Daniel Wallace a well-known and respected specialist in the field of Lupus. While the book is readily available on Ebay and through bookstores, it is also sold through the Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. and through many local Lupus organizations. If there is a downside to this book at all, I would say that many people pick it up expecting it to be a "feel good" book. It will not give coping skills or layout plans in "soft" messages to keep people with Lupus from going into a flare or getting sicker. This is a direct book about Lupus. It does have information about preventative measures. It is excellent for people with Lupus, their adult family members, their friends, their primary care doctors who might not be as familiar with Lupus as their specialists or anyone interested in learning more about it. There are other books written that are more helpful when it comes to caring for the person with Lupus, self care, preventative care, coping skills, etc. This book is for understanding what is Lupus.Read full review
