Mrs.De Blasi is an interesting writer. Having read one of her previous books,"A Thousand Days in Venice" I was interested in this book. It is written in the same vein as "Venice". Very descriptive of the area in which she decides to live but also of the characters and her interactions with them. In this book she and her new husband move from San Casciano to Orvieto, Italy. She describes her thoughts and trials in settling in a new Italian town. This book also dicusses how renovation of a building in Italy can be such a disjointed and frustrated experience. This has been borne out by other books about Americans attempting to buy and renovate villas or property in Italy. It seems to Italians that there is always "domani" or tomorrow for things to be done. The author does an excellent job in describing her interactions with the townspeople, her feelings and the love she has for certain characters. Also included are some of her receipes for Italian dishes because her love of Italian food is frequently mentioned.Read full review
After reading her first book I am now reading the entire series of books. Wonderful true story of falling in love, moving to Venice, and life in various parts of Italy! I have laughed and cried and felt I was a part of the stories - very real, very human - and lots of great recipes!
