Alexander Knox scores as a middle-aged Boston judge who, having had enough of his stressful life, abruptly pulls up stakes and leaves his demanding wife (Frieda Inescort) and self-centered daughter (Martha Hyer). Ending up in California, he is hired as a short order cook by Peggy (Ann Sothern), the owner of a roadside cafe. She provides him with the love and understanding that was missing from his former life. After a time, a pressing legal matter dictates his return home, where he promptly sets to rights two wrongs, one of his own making. In the end, he must choose between reconciling with his now remorseful wife, who has realized the error of her ways during his absence, or boarding a train to California where a promising new life with Peggy awaits him.

Again, a wonderful early movie in Martha Hyer's fine Hollywood career. Her dad was a judge, so this movie has extra meaning for her!
