I bought this because I enjoyed the season 3 DVD set so much that I received for Christmas. The magic, and all our favorite characters are still there - Andy, Opie, Aunt Bea, Gomer and especially Barney. This season also introduced Goober and placed Helen Krump as Andy's beau, but had fewer Floyd the Barber appearances. Maybe it is the absence of Floyd coupled with the increase of Helen, but this season did not have as many high moments for me as Season 3. The best two - Barney's Sidecar and Citizen's Arrest - are stone cold classics. There are more classics in Season 3, and it seems the episodes that aren't classics in that season are still better than the average episode in Season 4. That said, this is still a wonderful collection and I would reccommend it to any Andy Griffith fan. Fear not - Barney is still around on Season 5, so you (and I) should probably buy that one soon as well.Read full review
I regret that I have to give anything other than a good review. I am sure there are fans out there that know more about the show than I do to be modest but I don't know any. I am doing some investigating but it seems to me that season four has some editing in it that the others do not. One is the audience response laughter. In this series it has been taken out of some of the episodes and in my opinion takes away from the feel of the original series. The other is the video quality appears to be grainier than previous episodes. However when all is said and done it is still the Andy Griffith Show with some of the funniest episodes so I gave it a good rating.
I am glad the episodes are uncut. My only beef is that for some reason, some of the episodes don't have the laugh track in the background, and when you're used to hearing it, it's pretty distracting and empty sounding.

My husband and I enjoy watching Andy Griffith DVD's and love to do in the evening to relax and have a good laugh together! Perfect for family's with children of all ages, as not dirty and good clean fun! Great to relax and relieve tension after a hard days work as you can usually count on laughing! This 4th season has some of my favorites on it and we often go back to this season to re-watch again & again!! If you like to have a good laugh, then your sure to enjoy this season!!!
Sheer fantasy that makes me wish my life could be like Sheriff Andy Taylor. The lady who played teacher Helen Crump (Sheriff Taylor's girlfriend) in this set died in 1995 of cancer at the age of 62. Her real name was Aneta L. Corsaut. For those interested parties she is buried in the Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery at 10621 Victory Boulevard in North Hollywood, California, USA. Lot 3, Section 6518, Block G.
