After ten years of living and working with children with autism it takes a very special book to make me sit up and take notice - and this is it. The author writes from the dual perspective of mother and consultant in a warm, accessible style (I especially liked the anecdotes about her adorable son) and fights the corner for children with autism, refusing to put a negative spin on what some people still call 'challenging' behaviours. The mantra 'all behaviour is communication' certainly rings true in my experience. I have even taken the book's key points to write introductory care plans for my son. If you have friends, family or colleagues touched by autism I cannot recommend this book highly enough - buy a copy, then pass it round. Even better, buy lots of copies because this is a book that will be referred to again and again.Read full review
I love that this book is easy to understand. You think you know what your child may be going through but to have it described so plainly makes things much clearer. I would definately recomend this book. I have a 3 year old living with autism and already I can relate to much of the book. I breaks things down so any idiot like me can get it. I will be letting everyone in my family read it so next christmas they wont all stare at him when he covers his ears and screams.
Great little book for anyone to better understand what goes on with a child who has autism.
