Once you get past "Ballad of the Broken Word," which I personally hated, there are some fine songs on this album. My favorites are the light and jazzy "There Are No Mirrors in My Nana's House," (that includes lines like "I didn't know my skin was too black... I didn't know my clothes didn't fit" and "the beauty of everything was in her eyes") and the spine-tingling, hair-raising beauty of "Long Journey Home." "Wodaabe Nights" is great but so spooky you don't want to play it around little kids.
I had this CD for many years and liked it very much, then I lost it! Rebuying has allowed me to put it back in my collection! It is soulful, African based music full of women’s voices demanding justice and equality!! Fantastic rhythms and harmonies!
