Hilarity Unleashed!!! Never, NEVER, in my life have I found someone that thinks the way I do!!! Janet and I would get along just fine, ONLY if she actually had as much fun in real life as her books portray! LOL! I began reading the Stephanie Plum series as I was getting a divorce three years ago. With each book, I became more embroiled in the plot of the story AND in Stephanie's life. I was temporarily living upstairs in an old colonial home in Tuscumbia, AL, with some older friends (they never came upstairs). Their neice (also a friend of mine) was staying in the parlor downstairs since her house had flooded and they had to redo the whole thing, sell it, and buy another to redo! WHEW!! Anyway, Susan, the niece, had never read a book before. Night after night she lay awake listening to me laughing out loud hilariously and became curious. She asked could she read one if I was through with it and I said sure. I started her with the first one and now she reads them as fast as I myself do!!! Fancy that! The only books she has ever read are the Stephanie Plum novels! That speaks for themselves! I'll never get over Grandma Mazur! I just became a grandma for the first time and I want to be like her!!! We are always on the lookout for the next Stephanie Plum novel!! Please, please don't stop writing them now that we have found them!!! I tell everyone about them! We now have a Stephanie Plum Roundtable Reading Group! As I buy them, I pass them along! Even have the military guys reading them! They don't have much to laugh about being deployed overseas, so we help them out any way we can! Keep up the good work, Janet! By the way, Plum Spooky is the best yet!!!!Read full review
The Stephanie Plum series of novels (14 to date) are too good to pass up. For the best possible enjoyment start with book number "One" and work your way through to "Fourteen". It’s not necessary to do this, but you’ll really get to know the characters by doing so. Evanovich's books are a quick read, so be prepared to suffer separation anxiety waiting for the next in the series to go to print. In Fearless Fourteen Stephanie Plum is at it again. Evanovich keeps the story moving along at a fast and feverish pace. Her character development is unmatched ... Lulu, Ranger, Morrelli and Stephanie, along with the 'unusual' suspects, keep the reader laughing and in suspense from beginning to end. Previously I never cared for the styles of most female authors simply because their characters were unbelievably weak, unrealistically tough or simply stupid. Evanovich has a knack for keeping the human, feminine element in her heroine while respecting her as a person. As a fan of Crighton, Kellerman, Hillerman and Sanford I never thought I would enjoy ‘murder-light’. I was very wrong. Believe me, with Evanovich at the keyboard and Stephanie and Lulu behind the wheel you'll laugh until your sides ache while still enjoying the suspense of a well-crafted murder mystery.Read full review
I will admit this was not my favorite of the Plum Series. I do like how it seems Stephanie is going to settle down with Joe. The sexual tension with Ranger it keeps you turning the pages but I want Stephanie to marry Joe because I want to read about the fiasco of a Wedding with Grandma Bella and Grandma Mazur and how much whiskey her mom drinks ! I read a advertisement or something about the monkey in 14 so I was expecting so much more like I thought them monkey would belong to Grandma Mazur. I loved seeing Mooner back in the book. I'd like to see Sally Sweet in the next book - I think Sally Sweet and Lula should be the bridesmaids for Stephanies wedding to Joe. The book was kinda slow it didn't have me up all night loosing sleep to get through the back but after it was over I did feel my Evanovich depression after I read one of her books I can't seem to get into another book because I'm holding all the books up to Evanovich standards. I didn't agree with the title seemed like Stephanie wasn't as brave or as dumb I should say ! And I'd like to see Stephanie get knocked up in a book with Joe's baby and Lula needs to get knocked up with Tank's baby but Ranger needs to remain single and the underlying sexual tension between Stephanie & him needs to remain like maybe she can have a almost a affair or something. I did love the last line in the book though where Joe says he's a cupcake man now ! SO CUTE !!!!! I keep hoping a Plum movie is going to come out or at least a mini series. I love the books and will keep reading them as long as Janet writes them.Read full review
When I heard that Janet Evanovich's next Plum Series was published I just had to have it and fortunately for me I was preoccupied at the time of the release so I did not have to buy it in a bookstore but got a great deal on Ebay. The Book was Good - Not as exciting as some but still Grandma Mazur and Lula keep you laughing! It is a must read if you follow the Plum Series. Janet Evanovich's books always keep you smiling even months later when something pop's into your head. I can relate to some of her prediciments! Buy it you won't be disappointed.
It seems like Ms. Evanovich is not interested in this series anymore - her superb turn of phrase, trademark sexual tension, and lovable characters are missing entirely from this book. I have followed this series since the first one, and know the characters well - and the people in this book are not them. Lula resorts to lying and deception for a very strange purpose, Steph is just a doormat and acts like she's half-awake throughout, Ranger appears briefly and acts like he just met her, and Morelli is written to be the stereotypical "man-who-couldn't-keep-it-in-his-pants". There are subplots that never go anywhere and just stop, a main plot that has gaping holes in it and is very similar to an earlier book, and copied scenes from many previous books. Ms. Evanovich is usually an extremely talented author who has kept an addicted fan base happy for years. This book will not make any fan of hers happy - the writing is just not there. Even those readers who deservedly give this book a pass will check again next year - hopefully her talent will reappear and another winner like the first 12 books will arise.Read full review
