This book is a rare look at the most horrific of crimes, a school shooting. Spenser uses his adroit and humorous investigative skills to help the grandmother of one of the accused (and self-confessed) killers determine if her grandson is actually guilty since no one saw him that day. (The killers were masked and only one was captured at the scene.) While there are no real mitigating circumstances that justify such a shooting, Parker gives us more than just your routine motivation of bullying (not to minimize the power of that pain) and takes us into unexpected areas as he keeps digging against the will of everyone including the accused, and finally his grandmother.
