For its age, I suppose it does well. If there is anything on the DVD, the picture freezes or skips. Since most of my DVDs are older, this is a problem for me. I put in a brand new DVD in and it played perfect. Also, the machine itself must be as level as possible to avoid skips and freeze ups. I am lucky to have an original remote with my unit for more functions from remote. With an aftermarket remote, which I also have, just about all I can do is on/off and volume. As I said before,,,, All-in all, for the age, it is a good machine OH,,,, And it is GREAT for storing all of my DVDs in one place!!!

I am a movie buff, like many of you. Having storage for all the movies (and or music cd's)can be a painstaking and monotonous task when your in for the evening for a good movie. Sony has fixed this problem with this really nice piece of equipment. The DVP CX985V lacks the HDMI upgrading interface but provides more than adequit resolution for most home viewing. The Disc Explorer lacks the ability to read some disc titles automatically so you have to enter them via the ps/2 keyboard. However, if you do this as you stock the player it saves the information (and your favorite screen shot of the movie). Overall for the price, (Purchased at Best Buy) I found this player to work flawlessly during playback and normal operation. You may have a few problems with VCD disc compatbility as I did, but for the money, this is an exceptional DVD player. I rated this player "good" for one simple reason, Sony could have put a little more effort into the "load disc" capability so the user wouldnt have to name nearly all the discs in explorer manually.Read full review
Works well and has good features. Great improdvement on my old 400 disc system. I wish it had HDMI output though. (I bought an external HDMI converter.)

Unit is easy to connect. Menus are on-screen and not hard to follow. Picture and sound quality is good. Filing system is good. Saved pictures inside of the folder only good on large screen tvs. The changer has input for keyboard and is good for disc that don't label themselves. Unit will sometimes lose info on folder after viewing a disc (hopefully Ill figure it out. Cons: Remote has little undistinguishable buttons. The auto-detect option with some DVDs were incorrectly detected because they had crappy info encoded on them. If it auto-detects them, it seems you cannot change the info if its wrong.
