This is a much improved version over the previous Silent Hunters, especially for the graphics and sound. Fans of the series will not be disappointed. The Gold Edition adds various scenarios to play out, adding to the replay value.

There was no booklet as advertised. The keyboard layout was in French. The disk was in very good shape however. Fortunately, I had a old version where the cd cracked but the layout from it was the same and still good.

I like submarine sim games. This one has good graphics and simulations. It took a while to get the hang of it but when success came I was thrilled with the games scenes. There are times when it seems unfair but this is contributed to not paying attention to your time compression during play. It can be a boon or a failure depending on how or when you use it. To travel the huge oceans you need to use the time compression and the thing I dislike is that you have to slow down the time in many cases to keep from running aground. It also will automatically drop your time compression when you chance upon surface traffic. This can be annoying if your trying to get to a destination and you feel rushed. But it all works out in the end. You will find your quarry if your patient. I spent 8 hours my first time playing it just trying to chase down a task force that was thousands of miles away. I loved every minute of the chase and the bow on shot of a destroyer that was spectacular with a direct hit with two torpedoes. She sank fast and that gave me time to set up for the next one closing in on me. I missed twice on the next one but she went down on the third shot at about 700 yards out. The hardest part of the game is trying to conserve on torpedoes. Most ships will sink with just one shot(not always) but it happens more than not. Being patient and waiting for the ship to sink is the hard part. I like to sink them fast and that takes more shots. Well good luck and have fun racking up the tonnage.Read full review
I had longed to get a PC to enable my ability to play flight simulators for some time, and when I went on a year long Army deployment I bought a laptop to take with me. While in the Middle East I whiled away many hours playing this game. The renditions of WWWII sea ships is perfect, and visual, sound, and interactive effects are top notch. I found the game an extremely enjoyable variation of hunting games that are popular with the PC. The game is not perfect with some image glitches, and minor freezes in action, but the edge of your seat action as you find yourself desperately waiting for the torpedo room to load another round while on the surface enemy destroyers close in keeps your heart racing. I was well satisfied by this game, and the levels of difficulty, and authenticity keep it as action packed, and detailed as the player desires. It may not appeal to everyone, but it is the best value for anyone who likes this kind of game, or would appreciate a flight simulator thats in a class of it's own.Read full review
New game to me so I am getting to know how it plays. Will be happier once I understand how to play it. Looks good so far and am enjoying it so far.
