Works very well in poorly lit, confined spaces (e.g. museums). Offers good picture quality and great low-light performance. It's a little bit heavy, so I wouldn't recommend it as an everyday lens, but some of that weight is due to durable construction, so it should last for years. My only issue is with occasionally missed focus. It is usually only slightly off, but it's enough to cost it one star. Also, be aware that to get best performance out of Sigma lens it's a good idea to invest in their USB dock to fine tune the auto focus.

This lens is really nice but on my nikon d7200 it consistently front focused even with me spending nearly 5 hours using the calibration tool I could not get it to focus where I was aiming. Now the areas in front were very good. I just may have gotten one with an issue since it was used. But I had also purchased the sigma 17-70 f2.8-4 and had the same issue on my d5200. It's also really heavy and especially if your going to be doing photos for more than an hour or a man

I'll start with the build quality of this Sigma DC 18-35 mm F/1.8 HSM DC Lens. In short is superb! The zoom and focus rings are well ribbed, comfortable and turn smoothly with just the right amount of drag for quick accurate adjustments. The overall feel of the lens is of a high quality. Nothing seems cheap or flimsy. With the zoom and focusing all being internal there is much less chance of dust or grit entering the lens barrel. The lens hood is even a nice piece, not quite up to Nikon or Canon quality but for this price it's great and effective. The picture quality, sharpness and color quality are as good as any of my Nikkor lenses with no vignetting. So far I've seen absolutely no chromatic aberration in contrasting areas in the edges of my photos. This lens is a bit heavy but that's to be expected for a lens made of high quality glass. It actually gives my Nikon D7100 some nice balance, probably due to the camera being so light. I wish Sigma would make a comparable lens for the full frame cameras. Overall I'm very pleased with the performance of this lens. The large available aperture provides nice soft blurred backgrounds. I would recommend this lens to anyone looking for a super fast zoom. Of course you could buy an AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G for about the same price and just zoom the old fashioned way, with your feet. And it would be lighter too.Read full review
This lens is amazing. Out of the box it works perfect on my Nikon D5300. It holds 1.8f evenly over the entire focus range of 18-35mm. The manual focus is very smooth and silent. I also paired it with a metabones speed booster 0.64 XL and a Lumix GH4. It goes to complete manual mode. But the images for video are stunning. Especially in low light. I can shoot at very low ISO and the field of view is nice and shallow.

Not a zoom with the longest range but one of the brightest. Add to it that the lens does not move in and out when focusing and you have a very capable lens with a small variation of zoom lengths and one of the brightest and sharpest images on the market. Be warned however, pairing this with a knockoff speed booster will mean subtly blurry details. That is the fault of the glass on the cheap speed booster, not the lens. So either use a proper speed booster like the Metabones or don't use a speed booster at all.
