I love my savage model 93, but the magazines for this gun have had issues for years. The worst problem has been that they hold the rounds loose enough that a good rap causes all or most of the rounds to fast eject either in or out of the rifle. I have not had that issue with this one yet. The stainless steel mags seem to do better that the blued ones.

At first, it would not allow the bolt to push a round into the chamber. The lips on the magazine were too far apart and allowed the round to stick up too far to align with the bore. Also, when I removed the magazine to inspect it, all of the rounds just popped out of the magazine. I had to carefully bend the top tabs of the magazine closer together until the rounds held securely and fed correctly. There are a number of YouTube videos describing this problem and the necessary fix. I also had to burnish the edges of the tabs and the from ramp to smooth them and prevent them from catching on the round. It only took about 5 minutes to solve the problems. Now it works fine. This appears to be both a quality control issue and a basic design issue. I guess it is just too difficult to make the formed tabs to the correct angles and positions in a mass production environment. I gave the unit 2 stars because the fix is easy and just takes some attention to detail. If you are aware of the possible need to do some adjusting, then this item should work fine for you.Read full review

The magazines were nice looking. Didn't fit worth beans and didn't function at all. I had to spend a long time tuning them to get them to work at all. The follower tips forward and hangs up the last round nearly every time. I spent a couple hours each to get them to even go in. Better get a file, some strong needle nose, good plyers and a small crescent wrench. Once I got them bent and filed to fit and not hang up or hang up the cartridges, then they are nice. If you are smart and mechanical, you will end up happy. If you're not handy with metal working, you may not be happy.

The back of the magazine is not accurate. The receiver that guides it into the rifle is too tight. They can be manipulated to fit if you work with them a bit. Took me about 15 minutes per magazine to get them to fit properly. A little shaping and bending but not too much. The metal is cheap stamped metal that has been pressed into slots. They should be more accurate and better quality. You should not have to rework a brand new mag.

These mags are pretty finicky and don't usually feed well out of the box. My 5 round steel mag that came with my model 93 works great but the stainless 10 rounder took some effort to get working well. If you are willing to tinker there are plenty of how-to videos on YouTube for how to tune these things to work well but I wish Savage had better quality control to begin with.
