I bought this dvd two weeks ago and I have watched it several times since to put a big smile on the kid in me. If you are feeling bogged down in the world of adult reality and need a break from tv, I recommend this trip to Living Island. Better yet share this delightful family film with some of the children in your life, they will appreciate the magic of Pufnstuf and his friends. This feel good movie has many catchy tunes and lots of color! The story is easy to follow, a little boy named Jimmy (Jack Wild) has a bad day at school and goes off to play in the woods with his flute, who magically comes to life! A boat on the bay invites them for a ride, but then an 'evil' witch named Witchypoo (Billie Hayes) sends the boat to Living Island so she can try to steal Freddy the flute. Mayor Pufnstuf, who is a dragon, sees this scene unfold and with the help of his policemen, Cling and Clang, they rescue Jimmy. The rest of the movie is full of songs and fun as Witchypoo keeps trying to get the flute and Pufnstuf and friends try to help Jimmy get home. After Witchypoo finally gets Freddy and brags about it to her friend, Witch Hazel (Mama Cass), the Boss Witch (Martha Raye) decides to have the Witches' Convention on Living Island. The good guys get the flute back but the witch is mad and she wrecks the town. Jimmy feels bad about all the trouble for Pufnstuf and takes off with the idea that he can find a way off the island, but the Witchypoo is on the ball, she kidnaps the good guys and decides to cook Pufnstuf for the witches to eat!! Jimmy decides to help save his friends and also gets caught. The good guys break out of the dungeon and decide to scare all the witches off the island by dressing up as angels. As the witches flee the castle, Jimmy frees Pufnstuf and then they celebrate. I really enjoyed the wide screen ratio and the quality of the dvd, this film is from 1970! There was only one scene that was out of sync but it does not take anything away from this spectacular film. Pufnstuf is considered a childrens' movie but there are some great witty lines, especially from Witchypoo, that adults will chuckle at. My husband, who had never seen this before, found it 'refreshing' and 'better than some of the garbage they waste film on today'. I really hope that this review was helpful and encourages you to reconnect with your inner child. The world would be a better place if we all took the time!Read full review
This is an older full length movie that used to be shown in the 80's on Thanksgiving every year for some reason in Portland,Oregon area based on a weekend TV series. We used to watch it yearly as a family thing with our two girls that are grown now. It has alot of movie stars from long ago like Mama Cass and Martha Ray. It has a lot of similar charactors to some Mc Donald Hamburger people and could be why is was not available till recently. A fun clean show for the family. I think it's a good Halloween movie. Note:They do have rats dressed and acting like Nazis.
