Guess I wasn't paying enough attention. Thought I had purchased a stainless steel mag that had been darkened for better concielment. With the weather being high humidity results in RUST quickly. I lot of maintenance required. Still a good mag though!

I think this ProMag magazine looks really good. It is comfortable in my hand and I have to look at it to realize that it is not a factory mag. I do have a couple of issues with it though and would not be 100% comfortable carrying it in personal safety or competition shooting situation. **First issue I think is with the spring is excessively strong. Out of the package I could only load one round by hand. If I did not have a speed loader, I would not have been able to load it at all. I believed that this is just a matter of a strong spring that could improve with use. So far I have put about 100 rounds through it and it is still to tight to load manually. The one thing I did not do was try leaving it loaded for a few days to try to compress the spring slightly. That is something I am in the process of doing right now. **Second issue that I think is also related to the spring. Once I get the magazine loaded using the speed loader and insert it into the pistol it does not seem to seat properly. It is latched in and will not fall out but leaves a gap at the handle. If the slide is open from firing a different magazine the slide will hang open and will not feed the first cartridge. I have to stop and physically force the magazine upward in order to press the release button. Once the button is compressed the magazine will pop out and the slide will close. Note that this does not happen every time but it does happen 95% of the time. I suppose it is possible that the magazine may be slightly more narrow than the factory magazine and the round drags on the case when it slides. That could also cause the problems that I am seeing. In which case I think it would unlikely improve with time. Because of this issue, I can't give the magazine 5 stars. I think I would be to generous with 4 stars. If I were on the street or in a competition UNDER STRESS. I could not trust this to work for me. At this point, I think this magazine works well enough for practice and I hope that over time the spring will weaken slightly and I will be able to use it as an everyday carry. I have learned how to get the magazine out without causing harm even though it still waste a lot of time. First time it happened, I was trying to get it out, I tried pressing up on the magazine against my hand on the slide. When it broke loose it pinched my hand when the magazine popped out and the slide flew closed. Now I know to put the gun on a firm surface and press down while pressing the release button with the other hand. I hope this information will be helpful t0 make this magazine better for field use. The price is great compared to the price of the factory magazine and it really does look good. The other thing I would like to see if this issue can be corrected is to make one that holds 10 or more rounds. It would not be helpful for concealed carry but would really be great for competition shooting.Read full review

I've loaded and fired the magazines about 20 times each at capacity. The 6th and 7th rounds require a lot of pressure to load. Also, additional effort was required to seat the mags securely in the weapon. Simply pushing from the bottom and thinking it's seated is a mistake; firmly force it in. With the shortcomings noted, I'll say that they perform as desired when firing the weapon. Had no issues with either magazine and put more than 100 rounds through each. The price in comparison to manufacturer magazines is definitely worth it. I'd buy more of this same item.

Great aftermarket alternative to the oe Springfield magazine. Have run a few thousand rounds thru the first one and liked it so much I ordered a 2nd. Great value. Only downside, it's not quite as tight of a fit as the springfield but has no affect on operation or reliability.

They aren't polished stainless.. But they perform as factory. And are well made. The grip extension is a little off tollerance. But I'd buy another.
