This author's books on the Artist's Brain were recommended by Johannes Vloothuis during an online live workshop. Much of what Johannes does follows these principles and expands on them. The book is worth the money and time. Photos and paintings are very good. The book is a larger size so every image is easily understood. The finished paintings are shown after a progression of incorporated principles. If you are an expert artist, many of these principles will in place for you. For the rest of us, it is another great educational tool in the world of art, in this case watercolor. But the methods apply to oils, acrylics and pastels as well. I would recommend this to any aspiring artist.

One major negative aspect of this book is that neither the title nor the description indicate that it only discusses painting with WATERCOLORS. If you want to understand the concept of seeing with your artist's brain but you paint in oils, this is not the best book for you.

As an artist myself, I'm always open to ways of improving my technique, style and overall ability at looking at things in a new way; this book does'nt really break any new ground. Where it could have taken a more philosophical look at how to disseminate a subject - the most important being empathy - it just turns out to be a regular, basic book on design principles with most if not all finished works looking photographic. It does have some nice value sketchs and observations though - maybe a good book for beginners.
And reminder about the way we see

Was recommended by art teacher. Very clear, easy to understand and follow. Would recommend it for anyone, not just beginners.
