I haven't played every edition of EA's NBA Live series but I've played plenty and put in some serious hours, and the gameplay flaws on the 2007 edition are ridiculous. The most ridiculous are the phantom steals and dropped balls that occur a couple of dozen times each game as you drive to the hoop. I've had a monster dunker like Shawn Marion leading the break and driving to the rim with no one in front of him -- and yet the ball mysteriously falls to the floor for the trailing defense to pick up. This happens even after the player has left his feet and it doesn't seem to matter whether the defense is two steps behind you, standing beside you or even attempting a steal. The ball just falls out of the player's hands. Of course, all you have to do is stand in the paint on the opposite end to get the ball back, cause chances are the same thing will happen to the CPU. But who cares about an even trade when the goal is a basketball simulation? This alone has already put 2007 in the "for sale" stack, but the controls are unresponsive, especially when attempting to use the direct pass option (the icons often won't appear and you'll wind up shooting from half-court or throwing the ball into the backcourt). It's also mystifying why EA changed the player icons. For years, your center was the A button, power forward the square, small forward X and shooting guard 0 while the point guard would take the icon of whoever had the ball. This made direct passing a breeze, but now they constantly shift. I'm sure there's a pattern to it, but what's the point of fixing something that was never broken? This is just sloppy, almost retarded, game design.Read full review
This is my first time playing an NBA Live game in a really long time, but i wanted to try it again. The gameplay isn't bad though i got tired of missing a lot of layups. I changed the settings to make it a lot more normal to make layups. It's so hard to duplicate basketball, but they did a decent job on creating the fill. I still want something that allows much more zip passing. The main problem with the game is the menus in Franchise Mode. I still can't find a way to access my basic roster. I can go to playing time, but i want to simply access rosters like one can in Madden games (also comes in handy when you're trying to look for a certain type of player to trade for.) Trades are also annoying. The game acts as though you couldn't call a GM on the phone and try and make a trade. It takes a day or two for them to respond to a trade offer.Read full review
This seems to be a very popular game with the teenage sports fan. I purchased it for a Christmas present for my nephew as it was on his list. It was a good price and brand new in the package instead of used. That is why I purchased it. I am pleased with my purchase and think this is a good safer game to buy instead of the high violence ones out there. It gives kids (and some adults)something to aspire to (sports) instead of the violent images other games have.
I played this at a sony shop in NYC and I thoguht it was a great game, there are some improvements from 06 and many great feeatures. I loved the graphics and I would highly recommend it to any who enjoys the Live series, its a alot of fun. the Players are well designed and the rookie class JJ Redick, Adam Morrison, Andrea, Brandon Roy, Randy Foye came out incredible are fun to play as. All Star game features are exciting too.
good business I recommend itโ๐
