This is a great show. The thing reeks of style, sexyness and, oddly enough, elegance. A totally underrated gem, it seem, this spin off and prequel of Lupin is full of great visual flare that just gleefully screams 60's and 70's. It doesn't have a soundtrack of music from back then or has everyone wear the fashion of the times. Rather, it simply keeps some of the elements of the era upfront and has an air of the period, when Lupin first appeared on the scene. Unlike most other modern Lupin things this embraces the time when Lupin was born rather than slapping their old school looks and style to the modern era. This show has some outstanding music of great variety, solid performance for both the English and Japanese voices and it is slick with style and flare. The visual design is very reminiscent of animation from the 60's and 70's but with far more polish. Fujiko herself is a great lead and Lupin and the rest have a new air of intrigue as secondary characters. Having so little presence actually adds to their charm. The animation is great and the production value is rock solid. Very visually enjoyable. Each episode is rather intriguing and while the majority of stories are single episode affairs they are all enjoyable and unique from each other. A flavor of the week deal. The overarching is also pretty fascinating and while maybe it's a bit abstract it is also intriguing as all hell. The thing is, the price is too much to ask for. If I had to put a price on how much this title was worth then I'd say that this is a $40 value show. Even with only 13 episodes it is a hell of a ride. Passed that, though, I can only recommend it if you are willing to spend that much on it or if you have the cash to dish out. I got a good deal on my copy but with the show going for around $100 it's hard to tell people to grab it. If you can get it for $50 ir $60, maybe, but be aware that you are paying more for the novelty of owning it. It'd be cheaper to stream it if you can find it and enjoy it from there. A bit shy on extras, good box art and a great show. If you can stomach the price it's a hell of a good time.Read full review
