I am currently using this book for my Statistics class. The book is decent, but confusing at times. The writers don't always give reasoning for why you must go through a specific process, or use a certain formula. They just tell you to use it. I have found it is hard to teach yourself from, but with a study group it is a good tool. Haven't used any other Stats book, so I'm not sure how it compares to that.
I love that it is not all facts and the problems are easy to follow. There are many practice problems. Some of the most important things are already highlighted (I think by the book company) and it is great when needing to look back to review something. The terms at the end of the chapter are good to help one with the vocabulary. Then I loved the calculator section which guides you through how to do these problems on a calculator with many different options. I love that there is extra help on a cd in the back of the book too. Brand new not even opened cd too. I decided to buy it because it was required for my class and has been very helpful.
I bought the Intro Stats by David E. Bock, Paul F. Velleman, Richard Deveaux (2008) three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this. It has a clean cover. The book size is perfect. My only complaint is that the cover will easily break, Other books I've owned have a heavy body get i can't carry easily. Overall, I'd recommend the book if you're on a budget.
I needed this text for a college class, and have found it a great supplement to my class lectures. The information is presented in concise, readable material with plenty of example problems, and hundreds of exercises at the end of each chapter (with answers to the odd-numbered questions in the back of the book). Good choice for any introductory statistics class.
Excellent introduction to stats- very user-friendly. Authors make it easy to grasp technical concepts.
