For any Latter-Day-Saint who wants to experience "mighty change of heart", who has perhaps felt this wonderfeeling of love and desire to serve their fellow man in the past, and wants it back, I cannot recommend this book enough. Many of us have had wonderful experiences after sincere repentance, or after other spiritual experiences, where we have felt in touch with our Father in Heaven, and have felt a true love for all those around us. What I did not know about miine the time is the absolute happiness and love I was feeling for my fellow man was actually Charity, or "the pure love of Christ". Brother Yorgason begins his book by explaining the same feelings he had for his ward members when he was made a bishop. It was something he obtained not through any effort on his part, but was a blessing from receiving because he was set apart as a bishop. Through study and prayer, he realizes that he is experiencing the "charity" spoken of in the scriptures-something we all are commanded to have of we want eternal life and exaultation. Charity is not just being charitible, but is an actual spiritual gift we all can receive. He goes through the steps we all must take if we wish to have this. These include repenting of ALL our sins (not just the biggies we have to seek ecclesiastical help from), we must experience Godly sorrow for our sins and seek this gift with mighty prayer. If we do this, we will experience the "mighty change", and if we keep doing these things, it puts us at the beginning of a wonderful spiritual path that can culminate in some of the most wonderful spiritual experiences imaginable. I have family members who, like me, experienced this mighty change, without truly realizeing that they had (much like the Nephites did.)However, the wonderful feelings waned, as we stopped being as consistent in the things we needed to. This book takes all the things we have always been taught, but puts it all in a way that will have you saying "well duh, of course". Obtaining this "charity", this "Pure love of christ", experiencing the "mighty change" is really being changed from my natural, carnal state, to one where I am born of the Spirit, and have recieved the "baptism of fire". I no longer have a disposition to sin...not that I'm perfect, but having the Holy Ghost as a constant companion, is the most wonderful blessing, and I cannot describe the happiness I feel. The true joy in serving others because I WANT to, in studying the scriptures because I thirst for them, in praying morning, noon and night and having a prayer in my heart because I want to! I have bought a copy of this book for all my family members, and hope they can experience the same thing that I have. Even if you think "I don't need this." I'm already doing everything I need to, understand that even attending our meetings, fulfilling our callings, avoiding the big sins, obeying the word of wisdom, etc, is not enough. My husband, who has been a bishop, was of this mind. I asked him "If you keep doing everything you are currently doing, just as you are today, do you feel you will obtain exaltation, the highest degree of glory in the Celestial Kingdom?" He said "Yes, I believe I will.". After reading this book, he realized his error, one that many saints believe. "All is well in Zion, Zion prospereth" the adversary whispers. I hope and pray that if you are feeling prompted to read this book that you will. I pray you can find the happiness I have.Read full review
I love Blaine Yorgason books already. He is a great author. I love the title of the book and I already love that song. I haven’t read it yet but I know it will be great and I look forward to reading it.
