When I was a young man with a college degree and BS in Marketing my boss offered me a deal. He said, "You pay for the course and if you complete it I will refund your money!" I'm not exaggerating when I tell you the course changed my life. I learned the secret of salesmanship. How to speak in public. increasing your power of memory, how to not worry, etc. Now when I have a friend who is a worrywart I buy the book for them when I find it on eBay. I'm 82 now and have had a very successful life in sales. I'm not sure if they still give this course today but if they do anyone who completes the course will be well pleased. It's not really a sales course, it was a life changing course to me. Do a search by author "Dale Carnegie" on eBay and/or Half.com. There are several books in the course and any one will help most people if they read and absorb them. In fact read each book at least twice. Good Luck to you from a wise old man.Read full review
There are many books on this subject and I view Dale Carnegie the leader in promoting these ideas to the public in mass. His writings are exceptionally fun to read and the message is timeless. This was one of his later books published around 1944, on the back end of WW2, and encompasses many thoughts from "How to win friends and influence people" first published in 1936, in the middle of the "Great Depression". His approach is honest. He looks at human relations from a view of "how can I become a better person and more concerned about my fellow man than myself." Yes many of the techniques he alludes to in his writings can be used to manipulate without caring. They are just tools, just like a hammer can be used to help build a house, you can use to hit someone in the head. The 1930 parallel the way things are now. People from presidents of corporations to the Joe on the street flocked to his seminars and speeches then to learn how to improve there abilities to better deal with people. There are many books on the subject of manipulating people. The difference between Dale Carnegie and most of them is a matter heart, sympathy, compassion, and caring for the other person; which, he believed was the main main components to true human relations. I must reiterate, he was writing at a time when the world was involved in two of the most horrible things that could happen to a people, the "Great Depression" and WW2. He wrote to and for people that were struggling at all levels. If it worked for them it can work for you.Read full review
