This is my favorite cartoon. And just so you know, I loved the Simpsons back in the 90s, Futurama, Venture Brothers,King of the Hill, Chowder etc. So if you don't like that type of thing you might not like it. This show is about an eight year old who has the hobby of making amateur movies with his two best friends. The movies often end up being kiddy versions, and therefore unconscious parodies of various movies and cinematic conventions. The kid, Brendan, lives with a very tired looking single Mom and a baby sister. The kids play soccer and the soccer coach is a big influence in their lives. The humor pulls no punches, but it is gentle and character driven. That is it grows out of the characters and is in character. That puts it in the class of the Simpsons when it was really good. It sticks head and shoulders above shows like family guy, where the characters are mainly just shills for the jokes, any joke. And the jokes have to keep escalating in crudeness and shock value as the characters get more and more eroded by the jokes. (Not that there is anything wrong with crude and shocking as long as it "works" with the characters.) The kids soccer coach is sort of a drunk loser who is broke and drives a run down tricked out transam type car. He still thinks he is great and he loves to give the kids advice about life, which even the kids can see is deficient. At the same time he takes advantage of the kids: sending them for cofee, inefficiently and mostly ineffectively shaking them down for money, even one time sending a kid off to try to pass apparently stolen or found checks to buy stuff at a convenience store. Brendan is at once very mature and a regular eight year old kid who gets crushes and makes a fool of himself spectacularly for different girls. Anyhow, I recomend this show as a relatively subtle, low key, gentle funny, but sometimes uproariously funny, cartoon for grown ups. However, though it for grownups, most of the adult references are veiled enough that young kids won't really catch it. Also, there is occasional bad language, but it is occasional and it does not go to extremes such as "f--k". If this sounds good to you, you will love this cartoon.Read full review
A lovable series that really should have lasted a lot longer. This series has a big cult following and lived a lot longer than most people would have thought. It originally started on the now defunct UPN network and was canceled. After strong DVD sales it was actually brought back for another 2 seasons by the same network that saved the once canceled now a Juggernaut of FOX called family guy..That network is Cartoon Networks-Adult Swim. This show was created by Brendan Small who voices the main character by the same name. Small is also creator of the wildly Successful Metalocalypse-Also on Adult Swim. The series was also a jumpstart for another big time voice talent- Jon Benjamin of "Bob Burgers,Family Guy,The Venture Brothers,Dr.Katz" to name a few. This is the story of 3 kids and their wild imagination which they put to use by making their own films. The show does a very good job of creating many dynamic characters who Brendan usually runs into some type of comedic mishaps with. The best character who could basically have his own show is Brendan's soccer coach Jon McGuirk..who in real life would never be able to coach a children's soccer team. He is a hilarious drunken Scottish wannabe womanizer who usually makes terrible decisions (while drunk) like buying a set of swords off of QVC at 2 in the morning..When he comes to he realizes how terrible of a choice it is and tries to trade some of them to buy beer at the store. In some strange way he is also some kind of father figure to Brendan whose father is rarely around since his parents split and is busy building his new family. Take a chance on this DVD..Its worth every penny,If not just for McGuirk.Read full review

I had seen some episodes of Home Movies and remember really liking it and wanting to eventually buy the episodes. I found a good deal on the box set and decided to jump on it. I did not regret it. It has a bunch of features on every disc and the show is hilarious. I highly suggest going with the boxset it. It is amazing.
Great package with some nice extras. Home movies is a great concept and I would share it with roudy friends or tame family. Just good stuff. And this 10th anniversary set has some fun items to enjoy along with the full movie collection. I was very happy to get this!
