Instructions for Changing the pump from Vertical to Horizontal Discharge need to be improved. The only instructions provided are as follows: "Press Positioning Button" located on pump housing and rotate discharge port to desired position. First of all, this is not as easy as it sounds. It would be very helpful if there was an illustration showing the location of the Positioning Button, as it is not simply a button that can be easily identified by the written instructions. Second, The Positioning Button is not designed to be an easy to push button. It is practically a stationary button that requires more pressure than the average person can apply with a finger or thumb. I found it necessary to insert a small screwdriver between the button and the pump housing and pry upward in order to rotate the discharge port. Additionally, connecting the pump to the filter could be made so much easier and faster if a short, flexible connecting hose (with screw on connectors) was provided to connect the pump to the filter. I ended up having to use several pieces of PVC pipe and PVC couplings and PVC quick disconnect union and glue the PVC pieces together in order to complete the installation. Hayward makes a great product but the installation instructions changes I recommend, along with the inclusion of a short connecting hose, would reduce the install time tremendously. I realize that providing the connecting hose would obviously increase the price by a few dollars but it would certainly be worth it to the "do it yourself" consumer.Read full review

This pump is almost an exact replacement for my original pump, that went out after 8 years. The reviews on this pump say that this pump will not last very long, which would make it a major drawback. Only time will tell if this pump will last. It is much quieter than my older one, but can't compare old to new. Hopefully, it will remain quiet and work for at least five years. Hayward is known for quality products, but like everything else, I wouldn't be surprised if the quality in production has been reduced.

Last year when our pool pump wore out on us we were devastated. It was in the middle of summer and we needed a pump quick. That being said we also wanted to save money. This pump is the identical brand as the one we had making hooking it up quick and simple. The pump has worked perfect for us. It runs nice and quiet and moves the water flawlessly. The pump came very well packaged with a complete owners manual. Our family stands by Hayward products for our pool. The last pump lasted over 8 years with no issues. I wouldn't consider using any other brand pump since I trust this brand. This particular setup came with the basket and mounting plate. I would highly recommend this brand and style to anyone needing a pump. The 1.5 hp is more than we needed to filter our 16,000 gallon pool but having a higher flow rate makes the vacuuming so much easier and allows us to add items if we choose.Read full review

I just received this pump as a replacement for another brand that burned out. I have only had it running for about a week, but so far so good. The inside threads on the ports were leaking, so I bought the Hayward connectors for the outside threads and that solved the issue. I would recommend doing that if you purchase this or any pump.
