The star of a major motion picture studio's big budget epic (Clooney) is drugged and kidnaped for ransom by a "study group" of writers, philosophers and economists who are a communist cell in reality. This brings the many troubles of the studio boss (Josh Brolin) to a head. Along the way , viewers are treated to a number of outstanding performances contained in other genre films being made on the studio lot...including a "b" western (with Alden Ehrenreich) n aquatic specialty (with Scarlett Johannsson, a dance musical (with Channing Tatum) and a sophisticated drawing room drama . Tilda Swinton plays a duel role as two competing twin sister, vicious gossip columnists. This film is far more entertaining than ""La-la Land" even with the tongue-in-in-cheek.

I'm a "Coen brother's" fan and this movie is right up there w/ their other movies like "Intolerable Cruelty", "Oh Brother Where Art Thou", "Fargo", "Ladykillers", "Burn After Reading", "The Big Lebowski", "No Country for Old Men", "Hudsucker". I was hilarious to see the way the old Hollywood system operated to keep their celebrities under the radar of public scrutiny while not paying their writers properly.

Another great Coen Brothers film, a sentimental/sardonic look at a (fictional, but clearly modeled on MGM) studio in 1950's Hollywood.
