I've been playing for about five years. I own and play an Ibanez and Crafter mandolins. These are introductory instruments. I've played several professional models and could never justify the professional price tag. The Godin, pronounced GO-'Dan, is a wonderfully built mandolin. It is designed for electric play however still throws good volume without and fits in a round just fine. Qualit tuners stay where you leave them and this is set up at the factory. So both the action and intonation are right on. I have restrung it with a lighter string set then the factory and found it to have a bit more sustain. It has an almost banjo pluck to the sound. Lastly when you plug it in you have a lot of control with the sound. You can EQ out the boom and increase your presence. Since I'm transitioning playing drums in a decades old rock band our music crosses over that genre. Hope this opinion was helpful.Read full review

Finally, a great sounding mandolin that can handle serious volume and deliver the goods in a classic rock line-up without feedback issues. The action was great right out of the box. Neck is a little wider than my acoustic mandolin but I find it slightly more comfortable. I used mine in a live gig the same day the UPS truck delivered it and the audience feedback was great. Finish quality is excellent. Overall great value in a fit-for-purpose package.

I have been a guitar and violin player for over 30 years. I have never owned a mandolin prior to this. The mandolin seemed like the perfect instrument for me since it is tuned like a violin, buy played with a pick like a guitar. I researched online and saw this instrument was great plugged in, which I would be needing for band situations. It is fairly expensive for a first instrument, but I wanted to get it right the first time, not buy a cheap one, then wish I had a better one. This is perfect. You won't need another one. I purchased this one used. I had this mandolin set up by my local guitar people as the action was a bit high. I am reading that the newer models have adjustable bridges. This would have been nice, but as long as you can get someone to professionally set it up, you'll be okay. The mandolin sounds great unplugged or plugged in. The action is perfect, and it is a joy to play. I have not had this much enthusiasm for a new instrument in forever.Read full review

I'm new to playing Mandolin so I may not have the knowledge that others out there have, but I do play guitar and know a quality instrument when I feel it. This thing is great. The traditionalists out there may not be into it, but I mostly play with it plugged in and to me it sounds great. It sounds surprisingly good acoustically as well. Above all it plays better than any other mandolin I tried in its price range or below and that's what really sold me.

These are good mandolins. The neck can be shimmed if needed to address action.
