I've been using this type of pastry cutter for 45 years. This is my fourth one because eventually the metal tines get loose then finally come off and they snap against the ball with a thwack! My current one is getting old so I replaced it with this one. The screw looks like it can be tightened. I once tried the solid steel type of pastry cutter and it doesn't work nearly as well cutting in the shortening/butter/lard as this type. I just gave that one away and I had bought it at a professional cooking supply store so it was good quality. I went back to the tried and true. I always make homemade pastry so this is an essential tool in my kitchen.

This pastry blender DID come fairly quickly and well packaged, to the vendor's credit. BUT: Bought to replace a thirty year-old pastry harp that finally gave up the ghost making pies for Thanksgiving. (I prefer blending my pastry doughs by hand, rather than by food processor. I believe they are more tender.) This Fox Run blender is the same design, but NO WHERE NEAR the quality of my old one. The tines on this began to splay and bend immediately when I tried to cut the butter or crisco into the flour. I had to stop every few minutes and re-align the tines - a inefficient and ridiculous time waster. Very frustrating and disappointing. Apparently no one makes a quality kitchen tool anymore. But as I am "the Family Baker", I will keep looking.

Great pastry blender! The same kind my mom had. This type is a lot easier to use than the newer ones with the blades. If the butter sticks to it while blending I can just wipe it back in with my finger without worrying about getting cut.

it's okay but didn't really work for my intended use of mashing up a brick of shortening with sugar and flour, the wires tend to bend and make big gaps, the shortening gets stuck in it. It's quite easy to work with, but not for everything. Looks exactly as pictured.

I bought this primarily to use as a pastry blender. It cuts butter into flour mixtures efficiently and with minimal effort. I like the thumb rest which makes it easier to get good leverage as you work the dough. Nice product for the money.
