TRUE, gripping, IMPORTANT story of Darlene Diebler Rose and the way she kept her faith so beautifully in the midst of man's horrors. Young missionary couple to New Guinea and the pagan natives they reached with Christ. Set just before WWII, tells how this newlywed couple left all to serve Christ and then paid ultimate sacrifices. SO important to read how she continued to praise and honor Jesus Christ when life looked so bleak. Gives great, useful insight into how we should live even today. Out of print but DO DO DO find this book and read it and share it everywhere!!

I bought the book because I buy almost anything I can find on the New Guinea area during World War II. My father was stationed there from 1942 until 1944 with the 22nd Bomb Group, 5th Air Force, and since many histories either ignore it or downplay the importance of the area. This book turned out to be even better than I thought it might be. The author displayed a great heart and adventurous spirit to want to go in the late 1930s with her new husband to the high mountain lakes of Dutch New Guinea as missionaries. Then, to be trapped there by the outbreak of World War II, and to endure several years of Japanese imprisonment, she was tried beyond what most people would be able to bear. This is a great resource book for what life was like for POWs kept by the Japanese in the Pacific, and also a great testimony of faith under dire circumstances. She avoids extreme gore and explicit detail in telling her war-time story, yet manages to communicate very adequately what it must have been like. Interesting war memoir written by an American woman who lived it, with her insights and sensitivities and ways of describing things. I would recommend reading this book to anyone interested in the Pacific area of World War II and to anyone looking for a compelling and inspiring story to read about human cruelty, suffering, compassion, triumph and faith in God. -- M. This is hands down my favorite book. Darlene Deibler Rose was a missionary to New Guinea when she was taken prisoner by the Japanese during World War II. While in the miserable prison camp, she learned that her husband had died in another camp. She experienced incredible heartache and cruel treatment at the hands of her captors. The amazing part was that through it all, she maintained a joy in her Lord and a forgiveness for her persecutors. She made a point of blessing her fellow prisoners and sharing Christ's love with them as well. She even shared the gospel with the heartless camp leader. Throughout the entire book, again and again the reader sees her prayers answered miraculously, above and beyond even what she had expected. This is an excellent read for anyone looking for a true story of hope and joy in the midst of great trials! If you enjoyed "The Hiding Place" by Corrie ten Boom, you'll love "Evidence Not Seen" by Darlene Deibler Rose! Was this review helpful, informative, or enjoyable? Vote below!Read full review
If you want your walk of faith with the Lord encouraged, this is the book to buy. After reading this I was ashamed by my lack of faith. Easy to understand in a world full of ease and instant gratification. It's also easy to forget God is still working among His children. I was reminded as I read this book that God is at work today and that I can trust Him for 92 bananas as well.

Read the thrilling story of Christian missionaries serving God in the islands of the Far East in the lead up to World War II. When the Japanese invade, the missionaries are sent to internment camps cruelly run by the Japanese. This book recounts the horrors they endured, God's gracious provision of their needs and His amazing grace in their ministry after the war. Don't miss this incredible true story.
